  • Episode 2: Mark Pillow

Leading a business for almost 20 years teaches you a few things about change – especially when your industry rarely stands still. This month, we'll be joined by Mark Pillow, Founder and Managing Director of Voip Unlimited, to explore what those years have taught him. Mark co-founded the communications company in 2006. With a background in military and civil avionics, he brought an engineering-led approach to telecoms, building a business centred around technical excellence, reliability, and solving complex problems. His career has taken him through aviation, technology, and telecommunications, giving him a valuable perspective on building a business and leading through significant technological change. In this episode, we'll talk about his journey into leadership: the challenges, the defining moments, and the lessons he's learned along the way. We'll also look at how how the industry has evolved, where he believes it could be heading over the next three years, and what advice he would give his younger self and others stepping into leadership today. Join us for an open and insightful conversation about leadership, change, and career growth – through the lens of someone who has lived them.

I'm excited to launch the very first episode of Leo's Leadership Lens – a new series where I'll be sitting down with senior leaders from across the IT industry to explore their experiences, perspectives and lessons on leadership. But for the first episode, I'm doing things a little differently… I'm going in the hot seat! Before I start asking other leaders about their journeys, decisions and lessons learned, it seemed only fair to turn the tables and share a little more about my own. I've worked in recruitment since 2004 and, after more than a decade specialising in IT recruitment, I founded Leo Recruitment in 2021 to offer growing businesses a more personal, relationship-led approach to finding and attracting technical talent. In this opening episode, we'll be talking about my journey from recruiter to founder, why I decided to build Leo Recruitment, and some of the challenges, decisions and lessons that have shaped the way I approach business and leadership today. We'll also explore some of the biggest changes I've seen during more than two decades in recruitment, where I think the industry is heading over the next three years, and what I'd tell myself if I could go back to when I first stepped into leadership. After this, I'll be handing the hot seat over to my guests – but for episode one, it's my turn! I'd love you to join us live for the very first Leo's Leadership Lens.
