In our third episode, “Navigating Religious Diversities in Ontario and Quebec: The case of Francophone Immigrants,” we explore how our Francophone participants based in Montreal and Toronto navigate religious diversities. We focus upon our immigrant Francophone racialized female participants to understand how provincial and federal policies related to secularism and multiculturalism affect their daily lives, and whether these policies influenced their settlement in Montreal or Toronto.
We conclude that their experiences shed light on how multiculturalism in Ontario is idealized and contrasted with secular laws in Quebec, despite overarching similarities between them.
