Following the success of Denshi Ongaku No Bigaku Vol. 1 and Vol. 2, Cosmocities returns with the third instalment of its celebrated compilation series dedicated to the rich and ever-evolving world of Japanese electronic music. Compiled by label owner Matt Soulie, Denshi Ongaku No Bigaku Vol. 3 continues the journey through Japan’s diverse sonic landscape, bringing together pioneering artists, cult favourites and contemporary innovators across ambient, house, jazz-infused electronics and experimental sound design.

Since its inception, the Denshi Ongaku No Bigaku project has paid tribute to a musical culture that has profoundly influenced the Cosmocities vision. Where the first volume explored dreamy ambient textures and deep electronic moods, and the second shifted focus towards boogie-laden rhythms and jazz-fuelled dancefloor excursions, Volume 3 finds a natural balance between introspection and movement.

The compilation opens with Yosi Horikawa’s sublime “Bubbles”, an ambient masterpiece whose delicate organic textures gently set the tone. Chari Chari’s “Luna de Ritmos” follows with deep, ethereal house atmospherics before Force Of Nature’s hypnotic “Skyy High” guides listeners further into immersive territory.

The journey continues through the experimental electronics of XTAL’s “Skygazer” and the analogue warmth of Takuya Matsumoto’s “Jump Rope Music”, while regular Cosmocities contributor Yuu Udagawa delivers the sophisticated high-tech jazz house groove of “Little Secrets”.

On the second half of the collection, Kuniyuki’s remix of Slow Didi’s “Follow Me” brings rich jazz-inflected elegance, leading seamlessly into the futuristic techno-swing fusion of DJ Eiji Takehana featuring Yusuke Nakamura’s “Deep Track Jazz”. Tominori Hosoya’s “Summer Dreamers” adds a deeply emotional and dreamlike house moment before Azzurro’s “Just A Touch Of Love” shifts the focus firmly towards the dancefloor with a hypnotic late-night thumper.

Closing the compilation is AcidGelge’s “Fatality 4”, a beautifully spacey and atmospheric finale that leaves the listener suspended somewhere between the club, the cosmos and the imagination.

A carefully curated snapshot of Japanese electronic music past and present, Denshi Ongaku No Bigaku Vol. 3 once again showcases the depth, innovation and enduring influence of one of the world’s most inspiring musical cultures.

Dimitri Andreas is a Belgian artist whose sound moves between hypnotic techno, deep house and jungle-infused textures. A longstanding figure within Belgium’s electronic underground, he emerged through releases on Music Man and Systematic Recordings, alongside appearances at Tomorrowland, Dour Festival and the legendary I Love Techno. Over the years, his work has gradually expanded beyond club functionality into immersive audiovisual and deep-listening territory.

In September, Dimitri Andreas returns with PELICAN, a double-vinyl release on MOVE Recordings tracing the broader contours of his dancefloor-oriented musical universe. As his first major solo release in years, the record marks a renewed phase for an artist whose sound continues to evolve.

Mixolydian joins Basement Beats with ‘Dusk Till Dawn’, a four-track trip through the shifting hours of the night, moving between deep rolling grooves, hypnotic rhythms and hazy, psychedelic atmospheres.

Opening in darker territory, R.E.M (Dusk Mix) pairs a rolling low-end with haunting textures and dreamlike synth work, setting the tone as daylight begins to disappear.

Fourth Dimension, featuring Grevnik, pushes things deeper into the unknown with a pumping, heads-down rhythm, warped textures and late-night energy built for getting lost in.

On the flip, London-based Wigs steps up for a driving rework of R.E.M, twisting the original into a tripped-out club cut packed with movement, detail and restless tension through his trademark lens.

25 years behind the decks, and it's time I told this story.

I wanted to make an ode to the clubs that shaped me as an artist. So I wrote one track for every club that mattered: 4 in Belgium, Cube (where it all started), Groovy Tunes (my first big residency), Shaft (my most conflicted time), Fuse (where is started playing after I moved to Berlin), and 4 in Berlin, where I became who I am today, Watergate (My gate into the Berlin scene), Renate (Where I’ve met my wife and have my studio), Sisyphos (where I always have a good time), Panorama Bar (The most mythical of all dancefloors. Still unreal). Each one is inspired by that specific place, that specific time in my life; it's a snapshot, but seen through the lens of who I am as an artist now. Every club, every moment in my life, had its own sound, its own strain of house or techno that defined that time for me. So I took those sounds with me, and mixed them with the feelings, the moments of rapture I experienced in those places. That's the sonic backbone of this whole album, and it's also why these are real club tracks, made for the floor, not the couch.
