No matter how much we think we know God or know about God there are still misconceptions we carry around about Him. Things we picked up from others when we were young or from the church culture we may have grown up in. Pastor Mark is teaching about the need to know God and about the ways we can receive information about God. If we really want to know more about God and to have accurate knowledge regarding things like His character, it makes sense to go to the best source we have available. The Bible is the primary way we receive information about God.

In this life, we are told that we can be the commander of our own ship, that we have the final say about what happens to us in life. But any one who has lived for any time knows that there are many things we have to deal with that are out of our control. What to do then? We will be told about people who had forgotten God and stopped serving Him, and those who trusted God for their futures.

But as Pastor Mark tells us, they miss the other side of the argument. Adam and Eve had every other fruit to eat; why wouldn’t they just leave this one fruit alone? The fact is that God had given them all of creation to enjoy – He only warned them about one tree out of everything else on earth! This illustrates the problem with sin – it focuses on what we can’t have rather than all of the blessings God has made available to us.
