One of Marion Chesney's best Regencies features a young woman betrothed at the tender age of 10 to the gentleman who had kidnapped her.
Lady Lucinda Esmond's swine of a father, the earl of Sotheran, was forever fleecing young bucks in London's gaming halls with impunity - until he cheats Captain Mark Chamfrey, who kidnaps 10-year-old Lucinda for ransom. But when Chamfrey has a change of heart and returns the girl, Earl Esmond nonetheless exacts his own price: Chamfrey can redeem himself and save his skin only by marrying his little victim nine years hence.
Lucinda's father could not have foreseen what a beauty Lucinda would become nor that Chamfrey, a newly made marquess, would find that what was supposed to be his punishment turns out be exactly what he desires!

Chesney 2
Old stories written by dead authors, new stories written by authors still alive, can be just as good to read today as they were when written. Reading about Regency England is my favorite time period to enjoy. I picked this story because the author's style of storytelling matches my reading interest level. An easy story for an easy read.
A good regency read...
With some intrigue involved. Murder, mayhem, and intrigue. Filled with a few surprises, this should be a relaxing easy read.
Five Stars
Fun read.
Beaton and Joan Smith, the vintage ones deliver.
Great fun book. When you read the newer self published books, you see how truly GREAT the Beaton/Chesney books are.
Book I think I have read before.
I do love this book, but buyer beware, these have all been published before under Marion Chesney's name. Gotta check those publication dates better
