You have to set a boundary between the land of imagination and yourself. You were told long ago time to grow up and be in the real world. 

THAT is a LIE! It is not the real world it just feels real.

The Halo effect is really the God effect. Objectively you see something on the outside you think is good - they are beautiful for ex - and begin to assume they are 'good'.

Subjectively someone shows you they have a heart and does something you thought they would not do but they do it anyways. From that moment on you see them as 'good' no matter what and in turn they are not ugly like you thought before. Now they have a halo. You love them for their act of kindness, mercy and you refuse to believe they are anything but good.
