I stood there in tears as the woman I had a deep conversation with a few days before, walked past me with barely an acknowledgment.

I was so sad and I asked God, “Lord, why won’t she stand and talk with me after the life-changing exchange we had the other day?”

What He said to me completely changed the way I viewed relationships

He said, “Lisa, you’re expecting a friendship, where I intended it to simply be ministry”

He went on to show me how I was placing an unrealistic, and just plain wrong, expectation of a deeper relationship than He intended for us to have. All that interaction was supposed to be was an opportunity for Him to touch her and heal her heart, for a brief 20 minutes.

From that day onwards I released my expectations of relationships, to God. I learned to let God choose my friends, my mentors, my mentees, my peers, my colleagues etc.

After all, He knows why He puts us together with those around us. It’s all in His plan.
