Let the Adventure Begin with Chris Denker episodes

  • Pivoting Back

A little over six months ago, I decided to make a pivot in the podcast to focus my content on women my age and older. It didn't work out so well, and so I'm pivoting back to the original intent which is to provide examples of adventures in the areas of physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual health that more of us can relate to.

However, I also wanted to talk about the book Women Rowing North by Mary Pipher, so here is that episode. It's a great resource for the women in your life who are of a certain age. I know that it's going to continue to be a fantastic resource for me as I age. I think you will feel the same way. :)

If you're new to the podcast, thanks for taking 10 minutes or so out of your day to listen to a 57-year-old Midwesterner chat about topics that come top of mind when it comes to adventures in physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual health.

I hope you'll stick around. And, if you're a friend of the podcast already, thank you so much for your continued support. I'm so grateful for you!

If you haven't rated the podcast, I would appreciate a positive rating and review. That's how others learn about the community we are building, one listener at a time.

  • Attention to Detail

Recently, my husband and I went on a little getaway to Lee's Summit, Missouri, and the experience showed two examples of paying attention to detail, one in a not so attentive way and the other in an above and beyond way.

In this episode I mention: Stone Art - contact Ailene Banks at [email protected] and The Historic Browning Bed & Breakfast.

  • Build a Good Day

In this episode, I read an excerpt from Mary Pipher's book Women Rowing North. It focuses on the chapter, "Building a Good Day." I share what it was like for me from my mid-20's to mid-40's, and how that has changed now that I have fewer responsibilities as I'v gotten older.

If you're new to the podcast, thanks for taking 10 minutes or so out of your day to listen to a 57-year-old Midwesterner chat about topics that come top of mind when it comes to adventures in physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual health.

  • And Yet...

I've been reflective for a few reasons this spring, and I'm sharing them with you in this episode. I'm focusing on the short phrase, "And yet," and I'm hoping you will add it to your way of thinking as well.

If you're new to the podcast, thanks for taking 10 minutes or so out of your day to listen to a 57-year-old Midwesterner chat about topics that come top of mind when it comes to adventures in physical, intellectual, emotional, and spiritual health.

  • Sit with It

Sometimes it's hard to sit with our emotions, and yet, this is precisely what I'm asking us to do more of in our lives. It doesn't mean that we have to figure everything out. It means we can simply sit with them, let them move through us, and feel the weight eventually lift off our shoulders.

In this episode, I'm talking precisely about "sitting with it."

  • Time to Catch FIRE!

I saw a reel on Instagram recently and it resonated with me so much that I decided to do an episode about it. It is based on the acronym FIRE:

    F - Faith First

    I - Intentional Training

    R - Real Food

    E - Elevate Others

I'm really excited to share how I'm using it my life and how you can as well. Happy listening!

As always, thanks for listening to the podcast.  If you've been here awhile, I hope you know how much I appreciate you. If you stumbled onto it or it was suggested to you, thanks for giving it a listen and I hope you stick around.

And, I would really appreciate it if you give the podcast some love through a positive rating and review. That's how others will find it, and that's how it will grow.

  • It's Time to Spring Clean

I'm not talking about spring cleaning in the traditional sense. Instead, I was inspired by Ryan Holiday's article, How I'm Decluttering My Life This Spring. In this episode I share some of what Ryan talks about and then I offer what I'm doing to spring clean in my own life. Give the article a read for additional ideas.

Specifically, I discuss cleaning up your information diet, destroy a DOOM box, limi what has access, and get out in nature.

As always, thanks for listening to the podcast.  If you've been here awhile, I hope you know how much I appreciate you. If you stumbled onto it or it was suggested to you, thanks for giving it a listen and I hope you stick around.

  • This & That Late Winter Edition 2025

I almost missed the winter edition of This & That. This is an episode each season that I devote to what I've been watching, reading, listening to, and doing. The intent is to give listeners some fresh ideas, and I'm also all ears about getting ideas from you. :)

In this episode I refer to the books, Summer Skies by Jenny Colgan, Blue Zones by Dan Buettner, and Friendly Reminders by Scott Tatum; the Netflix series Running Point and the movie Snack Shack; and podcasts, Liz Gets Loaded (about money and anxiety) and Love Your Calm, Mini Meditations with Hannah Castillo.

  • Time to Walk the Walk

As I come out of hibernation here in the Northern Hemisphere with Spring right around the corner, I had a humbling experience that told me it's time to start walking the walk.

Remember, we are in control of how we react to situations and we what we do in the wake of them. I know that it's time for me to start walking the walk.

In this episode I refer to Episode 129 (why I didn't make resolutions in January this year).

  • An Audience of One

We often try to play to the crowds and let them dictate our success. The problem is we can't control if they are going to like something that we do. In this episode, I invite you to get back to the basics of doing things for an audience of one:  YOU!

In this episode, I refer to the following:

*An Audience of One by Srinivas Rao (e-book)

*Is It Worth It? by Chris Denker (article)

As always, thanks for listening to the podcast.  If you've been here awhile, I hope you know how much I appreciate you. If you stumbled onto it or it was suggested to you, thanks for giving it a listen and I hope you stick around.
