At the beginning of Amos’ prophecy, he lays out all of the sins of the nations surrounding Israel, even their brethren in Judah to the south.  But what may have been received eagerly at first quickly turns sour as the message shift to focus on Israel itself, and its sins, which are numerous. It is a stark reminder not to relish in the judgement of others while we ourselves are beset by sin.
