This week’s afternoon sermon takes a look at Psalm 139, what it teaches us about God, and how we can be encouraged by it.

When Jesus teaches his disciples to pray in Matthew 6, he is doing more than giving us words to say in prayer.  He is also teaching us about our God and our relationship with Him.  The prayer for daily bread is a reminder that we depend on God for our daily needs, while at the same time serving as a statement of trust and contentment.  Lastly, it serves as a reminder to be focused on our community, and use the opportunities we have to do good for others.

God created us in his image.  God wants to have a relationship with his creation.  God took steps to redeem and restore the broken relationship because of his great love for us and because we matter to him.

We continue our discussion of the last two chapters of Revelation, with particular focus on the descriptions of New Jerusalem that John saw.

We are blessed to have several men capable of serving in many different ways, and it is always a blessing to hear one of them share a message from God’s word.  Today our brother shares with us a lesson about the love of God, namely its generosity, it’s impartiality, and its immortality.

Within the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7), Jesus gives an example for prayer.  Though it gives us some thoughts that we can express as we pray, there is also much that it teaches about the God to whom we pray.  As we consider this week, the first few lines of the prayer teach us that God is our Father, that He is holy, and that He is sovereign.

The Bible beings with the reality of God’s existence, assuming that you, the reader, believe that God exists. Nature itself testifies to the reality of God (Ps. 19:1-6, Rom. 1:20), that he is the infinitely powerful creator of all things (Job. 38:1-11)

As we return to this study on Wednesday evening our tour of God’s picture of heaven continues with a reminder about who will recieve that inheritance, and who will recieve a different portion.  We then begin to examine the details of the holy city which John saw.

Revelation ends on a high note, with promises of things to come and an eternal home that human words cannot really describe.  We long for that new place in which we will be with our God for eternity.
