Forgiveness is not easy, but it is necessary. When Jesus tells us not to limit our forgiveness, we know that it is going to be hard to do. But as we think about all that God has forgiven us, it helps us to be able to forgive our brother.

Hezekiah was a king that proved that those that come before us do not determine the life that is ahead of us. Though his father was a bad king, he himself served God faithfully, and knew to turn to God in times of trial.

Many of the things that Jesus said are difficult. They are not necessarily difficult to understand, but often difficult to put into practice. It is easy to say that one is born again, but to be born anew, from above, is much more than just words we say. It is a transformation, it is a change that is worked in us when we allow God to change us through his Spirit.

King Uzziah, or Azariah as he is called in 2 Kings, is another king of Judah that went from some pretty high highs to some pretty low lows. Though his reign started well with faithfulness to the Lord, it ended in disgrace because he allowed his pride to lead to his downfall.

Matthew 7:1 is probably one of the best known passages of our day, but when it is examined in context, it provides a much clearer picture of what Jesus means when he says, “Judge not, that you be not judge.” Our brother Jamie Byrom from Columbia, SC did an excellent job sharing with us what Jesus is really saying here, and how to judge in a righteous way.

This week’s discussion overlaps a couple of different topics. First, in the end of Chapter 19, we see the ultimate downfall of the beast and false prophet, and the defeat of all their servants. Chapter 20 opens with the binding of the dragon, and the beginning of the end for the ultimate enemy of the church.

King Joash of Judah started off well, and shows us the importance of having a good mentor to guide as in youth. But unfortunately his later failures demonstrate the ever-present need to develop our own faith, rather than simply being guided by others.

Jesus’ parable of the wise and foolish virgins emphasizes the need to be ready for when he comes. It is something that we must always be ready for, and not something when he can get ready for when it arrives. More than just desiring to be at the wedding feast of the Lamb, we must be prepared for his coming.

This week we are happy to have T.J. Bolen from Clover, SC bring our lesson to us, as he speaks to us from the second half of Matthew 6, and what it means to trust in the God who provides all that we need.
Speaker: T.J. Bolen
The bridegroom bursts onto the scene dressed as a conquering king. Jesus rides forth in triumph, prepared to defeat his enemies once and for all, and to usher his people into eternal glory.
