It has been a wonderful blessing to study the Sermon on the Mount together throughout this Summer. And it comes to a fitting in as our Lord encourages us to not only hear his words, but to put them into practice. This is how we build on the rock, and ensure that our house will stand. And we are thankful to our brother Harry Davis from the Plaza Church of Christ in Sumter, SC for sharing this lesson with us.
Speaker: Harry Davis
With Satan cast into the lake of fire, the final judgement comes. All the dead are raised and stand before the throne to face judgement, and those whose names are not found in the Book of Life are cast into the lake of fire, while the righteous are ushered into their eternal home.

The world tells us to seek our own exaltation, but the word of God and Christ tell us something different. Instead of exalting self, Jesus says to humble ourselves, to take the lowest place, and make oneself a servant. That is the measure of greatness in the kingdom of God.

Despite having many predecessors who were unfaithful to God, Josiah was determined to do what was right in the eyes of the Lord. This was emphasized when the Book of the Law of God was found in the temple, and Josiah set out taking several steps to return Judah back to God.

Perhaps the entirety of the Sermon on the Mount could be classified as instruction in being true disciples, but the section we considered during this lesson points to specific characteristics. We are thankful for our brother, Brian Terry from Moore, SC for sharing the Word with us on this evening.

Though Revelation 20 depicts Satan as completely restricted in his ability to deceive the nations, it also speaks of his release, in which he will symbolically gather an army to fight against God. Though the army gathers, no battle takes place, and we are given yet another symbolic image to show us the absolute certainty of victory for God, the Lamb, and His people.

Among the difficult teachings of Jesus is the call to ready to make sacrifices in order to follow him. In these lessons we present those sacrifices as three deaths that the disciple of Jesus must be willing to die: to die physically for Christ, to die to the world, and ultimately, to die to self.

It’s easy to think of King Manasseh as one of the worst kings that Judah ever had. After all, according to 2 Kings, it was his sins that ultimately led to Judah’s captivity. Yet even Manasseh was not beyond the reach of God’s grace, as 2 Chronicles reveals.

All throughout the Bible, mankind is given a choice between doing what is right and serving God, and doing what is evil and serving self. In the Sermon on the Mount Jesus presents that choice as two different paths: one that is easy but leads to destruction and one that is difficult but leads to eternal life. We are thankful to Ernie Richards from the White Knoll Church of Christ for reminding us of that choice.
Speaker: Ernie Richards
Part one of this lesson was conducted two weeks ago, as we considered the end of chapter 19 and transitioned into chapter 20. This week we are in chapter 20 in earnest, and after a review of Satan’s binding which we had previously discussed, we consider the contrast to that point, the reign of the saints.
