On May 2nd, 2020, a music industry initiative created by  Atlantic Records' senior director of marketing Jamila Thomas and former  senior director of marketing Brianna Agyemang, was picked up by the  public. The idea was that all music business halts for the day, and  instead reflect on future actions.

People from everywhere got involved, and on this day, many peoples timelines were flooded with black squares in solidarity.
