Attorney General Letitia James has had the tables turned. Investigative financial journalist, Mel Witte has published an extravagant expenditure sheet that raised eyebrows after publishing. James is best known as bringing the charges that may cost former President Trump over $450 million in the judgement against him. A public advocate for the past 4 years and former council member, James has kept clear of scandal. Over the past five years the Attorney General has created quite the expenditure list. Over $384k in hotel stays, airfare, car rentals, meals, reimbursements and much more.
According to Witte, the financial statements included lavish stays in Beverly Hills, with reimbursement of $65,000 in campaign consultants, which is vague in description. One of the years after winning, there was a single year of $300,000 in consulting fees, with a 2 bedroom apartment in Brooklyn receiving the funds. While James may not have broken laws, there does seem to be a tie to ghost donors.
In 2022 there were donors from all over the country, with 62% coming from out of state to an attorney general in New York. Over 3 million dollars came in from 32,593 individual receipts. A landslide of donations poured in just as James began her charge press against Donald Trump.
On today’s show we discuss what these numbers may mean for the justice system and the corruption in both political parties.
