The last friday is a complete blur for us but the weekend was amazing. Kristýna went grocery shopping saying “it was freaking amazing”, and also went to an Erasmus party and Lauren worked on school assignments. 

For this episode, we went on Reddit and found a bunch of stories or questions regarding being an international student, living abroad, trying to get into a university abroad, studying languages, etc. and decided to help out! A lot happened this past week: We talk about Lauren's sister visiting her in Madrid, a Sahara sandstorm (Kristyna was pretty confused when she woke up that morning), and a two conferences – one amazing, the other a little less enjoyable.

For this episode's main topic we decided to dive into everything we miss from back home after moving abroad. Sometimes it's the smallest things you miss the most. And some things you only really learn to appreciate once you're gone. We, of course, also talk about the things that we appreciate about living here in Madrid. Things that we wouldn't be able to enjoy had we not moved abroad.

Oh, and somewhere towards the end, there's a random, but quite in-depth rant about our health insurance situation and how confused we are by it. So, do with that what you will. We got a little off track there for a bit.

We haven’t done anything special this past week. The main activity was basically just working for the both of us. So we took advantage of the first part of the episode and ranted about our teachers changing our schedule (for the one week where Lauren has a visitor) and disappointing masterclass.

In this episode we go over our results from the 16 personalities test. Most of the things were not really shocking but a few of them were quite unexpected. We learned a couple of new information about not only each other but also ourselves.

This week, we look back at last minute assignments and just generally bad time management. We talk about the two of us getting bagels with Lauren’s dad. (This was also Kristyna’s first time meeting him!) We also talk about things such as almond trees (they’re blossoming!), a picnic (isn’t there always a picnic…), a protest, and a dinner with our classmates (which was a lot of fun, even though the two of us were too full to actually eat dinner). All in all, we cover a lot. We had a busy weekend.

For this episode’s main topic, we spent some time talking about the war in Ukraine. As we’re sure is the case for everybody, it has been omnipresent in our lives. We discussed it in class, had countless conversations with friends and family, could not stop thinking about it and checking our phones for updates. After we went to a protest on Sunday and even got the opportunity to speak to a couple of people there, we decided to dedicate this week’s episode to talking about how we’ve been experiencing this war, what we’ve been talking about with family and friends and different points that we’ve disussed in some of our Journalism classes.

Of course, we are in no way specialists. This Is us sharing our personal experience and our limited knowledge. We’re also aware of the fact that, even though this is causing us a lot of stress and anxiety, we are in a very privileged position, as we are not being directly affected by this war.

As a sidenote: We recorded this episode on the 3rd of March. So, the situation has evolved a lot since then and many things have happened in the meantime.

New episode interrupted by pizza making (an unsuccessful one unfortunately) is all about maintaining relationships with family and hometown friends while living and studying abroad. It is difficult to keep in touch while you're thousands of kilometers away from yourt loved ones. You have to make time, treat it as an actual event and accept that you're probably not going to talk to your closest ones as much as you were used to. But don't worry, we are here to the rescue. 

A lot has happened in the past week, including bookstore tour in Madrid, crepes, annoying assignment for Spanish class and we spill it all in this episode!

As is the case every week, we struggled to remember what we'd spent the days following up to our recording session doing: Getting our nails done, getting unreasonably excited about buying a cutting board and a garlic press (we're adults now, apparently), and preparing for a presentation in Spanish.

This episode is a fun one - we felt like this was needed after a series of quite emotional ones. We each collected a list of random questions that we found intriguing and turned the main part of this week's episode into a Q&A session. We did try something new though: For the first part, we each answered the questions for the other person – instead of for ourselves. Meaning that we had to try to guess what the other person's answer to this question would be. If that makes any sense: We had a difficult time working it out for ourselves and then struggled to explain it in the podcast episode itself. 😅 But it ended up being a lot of fun!

We love enjoying these types of episodes and we could've gone on asking each other questions for forever. We hope you have fun listening to it! 😊

We went to the best reviewed churros place in Madrid and afterwards, we also got bubble tea (again). Both of it was amazing, even though we were a bit sick from all the sugar :D. Sunday turned out to be quite stressful, since we finally realised we are in fact university students and should be doing some work. Our classmate had her birthday, which we celebrated by having a picnic in a park and playing spanish cards.

In this episode we talk about our new classes of our second semester of university. After almost 2 completed weeks, we're still not completely sure what to expect but that's okay. As our positive side would say: That's what makes it more fun! We also share our general expectations for the second semester of being full-time international students, which include reading a book in Spanish, going to a language exchange event and much more!

Saying goodbye to family and friends, enjoying (or trying to enjoy) the last few days in our hometown, our trip back to Madrid... We cover a lot in this episode's recap of the previous week.

For the main topic, we talk about how we felt before coming back to Madrid for the beginning of the new semester, how our trip went and how we experienced the first couple of days back in Spain. Excitement, fear, and anxiety: we experienced a rollercoaster of emotions. But so far, we've been handling being back in Madrid surprisingly well!

This week's episode also features a special guest: Kristýna's friend from the Czech Republic who visited her in Madrid for a week. (Which definitely made the transition period a lot easier!)

Kristýna had her last get together with friends before leaving to go to Spain, enjoyed another sauna session, got a new job and even had her training! Lauren’s week was also very interesting. She got inspired by Kristýna and decided to do a fun photoshoot with her hometown friend. We quickly mention our current covid vaccine situation and compare our reactions.

A while ago, we talked about our cooking struggles as newly moved out young adults. In this episode, we went back to that topic and contemplated about how things changed while being home - cooking wise. We tried some new recipes and the best thing was not being obligated to go grocery shopping.

Then we got off topic a little (as always) and started sharing which things we're bringing back and that led us to BOOKS. At that same moment, we planned an entire afternoon of going book shopping in Madrid.
