For example, a sight-word reader would see these words as hugely similar: light, tight, flight, height, mighty, sights, blight, bright, fight, nightly ...

This article will explain to you once and for all time why sight-words are useless and destructive.

You as a real reader can sound out the differences. But your seven-year-olds going to first grade will not have that edge or that understanding. They will soon be lost unless they are taught the letters and the sounds.
