Justin Piercy is a father of three, husband, and the Digital Ministry Director at Connexus Church. The man needs coffee! Justin has taken his passion for coffee and created an incredible social media following of like-minded, international, men and women. Justin gives us detailed descriptions of how to up our coffee brewing game and recommendations of his favourite local roasters (though there really were too many to recall at once). Most importantly, Justin and I discuss anxiety, panic and caffeine. This is an episode that you won't want to miss!
January, his mother and his 5 siblings live on a small farm at the southern base of Mount Kilimanjaro, in Tanzania, of north-eastern Africa. In March, January's father passed away leaving him the man of the house, at age 27. Their current family business is failing due to the effects that COVID-19 has had on the community market. January aims to open a Zanzibarian inspired cuisine and pizza restaurant near the International College of WildLIfe, as this is a heavily toured and visited area. The cost is $5000 Canadian, which is nearly 2.2 million Tanzanian Shillings. Listen to the episode for all of the details. Donations can be sent to: [email protected] and the cutoff date is July 31st. Thank you so much for your generous heart.
Another high school bestie graces the pod today! Something that I have not gotten to do, YET, is travel through Europe. Come live vicariously through this episode with me. Nicole Eplett has been to 16 countries in the world. 11 of which are in Europe. She is an experienced traveller, both in groups and solo, and has lots of fun stories and helpful tips for you to pack on your next adventure!
Caitlin Pace is a ball of energy. I have loved being around her since the moment we met. You'll hear all about it. Caitlin was born into a musical family, with Christmas morning piano and singing performances (I have GOT to get my hands on those videos). In grade four, Caitlin starred in her first on-stage performance. There was no forgetting that feeling. She was made for the stage. With a university degree and around 30 on-stage performances under her belt, we learn about Caitlin's long-time love of theatre and music.
Something that sets me apart from the majority of people is that I have never had a family dog! My parents had a cat and now, my family has a cat! Thus, I sought out a professional to teach me about all things K-9. Kelsea and I talk about how to choose a dog that is right for you and/or your family, how to recognize a safe breeder, life as a full-time dog walker, her Instagram famous dog, which dogs we think are so stinking cute and much more.
All the single ladies! Choosing to stay single in today's dating climate is not uncommon. Tanis Crooks speaks openly about the benefits that she sees in staying single and childless through your 20s. We talk about mental health, therapy, self-discovery, travel, family relationships and so much more. One of my longest episodes yet, you will not be disappointed with the openness and authenticity of a mom and a woman with freedom, trying to understand each other!
Do your kids love getting messy? Perhaps not; however, I bet they're intrigued by feeling new sensations! What about hands-on learning? Alicia Machika has tapped into her kid's natural curiosity to find a fun and engaging way for them to learn. Sensory Play is educational no matter if you have a specific intention for it, or leave it up to the child. Listen to this episode for ideas that will engage your preschool to school-aged kids!
Vicky Brassington is currently on day 529 of moving her body intentionally for at least 30 minutes. Have you ever had a streak that long?! I surely have not. Vicky and I talk about how to build lasting habits and the scientific ways in which physical movement and being out in nature affect your mental health. This episode is for you if you have been a bit of a couch potato during lockdown and you're looking for some tangible, evidence-based reasons why you should get your butt moving!
Success looks different to everybody. Somehow though, we can get caught up in what we've been told it is. Externally, Katie Williams looked like a woman with it "all together". Internally, Katie felt much differently. After life flipped itself upside down and backwards, Katie hit delete on her business (literally): started over, redefined what success was for her and has been coaching other entrepreneurs since. This episode will fuel you up and help you on your way to where you want to go!
Talking about Stand-Up Comedy with my high school friend? Yes, please. Scott Walker started doing musical shows with his band at local bars and restaurants. Later, he was presented with an opportunity to try out his hand, or mouth?, at Stand-Up Comedy, when an open-mic night started at a bar that was familiar with his band. Scott has learned through trial and error what skills he is strong at, and what he needs to work on. Listen as Scott gives us a behind the scenes look at the work that goes into being funny on stage!
