On April 6th, 2018, on-route to a playoff game in Nipawin, the Humboldt Broncos’ team bus was involved in a horrific crash. The crash resulted in the death of 16 members of the Broncos team and left 13 more with critical injuries. Kaleb Dahlgren was one of the 13 survivors. He suffered extensive injuries including a fractured skull, a traumatic brain injury, and several fractures in his neck and back.
A true fighter, Kaleb was determined to heal and return to his true passion—hockey. Classified as a miracle by numerous doctors, Kaleb overcame the physical, mental and emotional traumas, and returned to hockey. He wanted to shine a hopeful light on the dark situation by continuing to live his life to the fullest. Further driven to make a difference in his community, Kaleb found himself back in Humboldt, continuing his volunteer work, days after being discharged from the hospital.
In today’s episode, Kaleb shares his story of survival and success, and explains how he continues to live life to the fullest every single day to honour the 13 souls that were lost.
Kaleb’s new book “Crossroads: My Story of Tragedy and Resilience as a Humboldt Bronco” is available everywhere, and is a must read. Be sure to pick it up from anywhere you get your books!
