  • Let's Talk About Race Greg Hill
    A long-time resident of Somerville, Greg Hill worked as a library technician until his retirement in 2012. Formerly a freelance photographer, he was also sole proprietor of a screen-printing shop in Cambridge.
    A local activist for many years, he’s been a member of the Somerville Producers Group, Union United Coalition, Concord Ave. Community Garden, Union Square Neighborhood Council, Somerville Stands Together and Mass. Senior Action Council.
    An avid amateur historian, he’s also a member of the Somerville Museum and the Mass. Historical Society.
    Greg has three topics to talk about:
    (1) Three Urban Inequities: Housing, Transportation, Environment
    (2) 2nd Topic; P.A.N.I.C. in Cambridge (We look back at how African-American workers at Polaroid in Massachusetts helped launch the divestment movement against Apartheid South Africa in the early 1970s) and finally,
    (3) Reflecting on the assassination of Dr. King, 41 years ago on this date, we will begin to unfold discussion of White Supremacy: past, present and future. How might white people working together begin to dismantle the system of White Supremacy?

    John Philpot is a highly experienced Montreal based criminal lawyer. A member of the Barreau du Québec since 1984, he has specialized in Criminal Law since 1984 and International Criminal Law since 1998. He is a pioneer in trials in International Criminal Law. He acted at the International Criminal Court in The Hague (ICC) in the Kenya file and at the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda in three cases. He is a judge at the Kuala Lumpur War Crimes Tribunal.

I was always a teacher activist/community organizer for social and restorative justice, for race, class and gender equity. I believed it was critical to introduce students to understand deeply the concepts of historiography. I taught that the electoral franchise is our American birthright . My main text was Howard Zinn's "Peoples History of the United States."
