Our guest for episode 3 of the Let's Talk! Podcast Series is Mr. Takefumi Inoue, General Manager, Industrial Lithium-ion Battery Department at GS Yuasa International Ltd. 

He talks to us about high-quality and safety in lithium-ion cell and battery manufacturing. He also throws light on the different design stages and shares his insights on the significance of standards to ensure safety and quality of cells and batteries during their manufacturing.   

Dr. Steven Sloop, president and founder of OnTo Technology, talks about the past, the present and the future of lithium-ion battery recycling. We discuss the different recycling processes currently available and why many end-of-life lithium-ion batteries are currently not processed. He highlights how the rapidly growing lithium-ion battery industry needs advanced recycling to reduce the costs and support the production of new batteries. Steve also shares his insights on the importance of industrial safety in recycling large-scale batteries, and how he has addressed the issue in his work. 

Ms. Sonya Bird, Director of International Standards for Underwriters Laboratories and US representative to the IEC Standardization Management Board (SMB), sits down with us to talk about her journey from a US-based standards project manager to a global influencer of standards, and she shares advice for individuals who are beginning their involvement in standards development.  She shares insights on the value of standards and standardization, and addresses the need for research to support standards.  Sonya also talks about the importance of diversity in standards, and in particular the opportunities for standards developers to consider gender-responsive standards.
