After Jesus sent His disciples to minister in Galilee, some disciples of Jon cam to Him, asking if He truly was the Messiah (being sent by John the Baptist). Jesus kept working wonders and told them to go back to John and report the things that they have seen. He comforts John to continue to believe, even though he did not understand some things. Then Jesus turns to the crowd in a marvelous defense of John and his ministry. He continued His rebuke of the cities that saw His works and yet did not repent. Finally, He explained just why they did not receive Him as Messiah in the first place.

The final words of Jesus in chapter 9 was to pray that God would send workers into the harvest; and this is exactly what Jesus does in choosing twelve men to send them into the harvest of Israel. In this, He tells them not to carry additional provisions for themselves, but to rely of God working through those who hear them to provide for their needs. And He also warns them of persecution because of their preaching Jesus as Messiah. He teaches them not to be afraid of men who seek to do them harm because of their message, but rest assured of the Fathers love and concern for them. So, they should publicly proclaim Him before all. And finally, as to those who hear them and receive their message and support their ministry, He states that God will reward them for their service.

In the Sermon on the Mount (chapters 5-7), Jesus demonstrated His authority in teaching. In Chapter 8, He demonstrates His authority over all manner of sicknesses and diseases and demonic possessions. He also gives two principles of discipleship - suffering and Jesus being the ultimate priority. Nearing the end of the chapter, He calms the storms of the sea, causing His disciples to ask what kind of “man” He was, followed by the casting out of demons and receiving an answer to their question. He is the Son of God.

Jesus continues His teachings in several areas concerning judgment, prayer and works. As He ends His teachings, He concentrates on the necessity of good works. That is, true belief in Him as Messiah will manifest itself in the life of the believer by works of righteousness. True faith is evidenced by the life of the one confessing faith in Jesus.

The latter teachings of chapter 5 denote Jesus’ warning that the people’s righteousness should surpass that of the pharisees. So, He begins by attacking the wrong teachings of the pharisees and telling them His own, showing how the pharisees misinterpreted and went beyond the correct teachings of the Law of Moses. He dealt with the issues of murder, adultery, divorce, vows and retaliation. His point was that they should have a righteousness that comes from the heart in following the example of God, their father.

As the large crowds followed Jesus, wandering if He were the Messiah who would bring about the kingdom, Jesus led them to a mountain and began to teach them. The essence of His teachings in this video deals with who is qualified to enter the kingdom of the Messiah. Jesus answered that as those who look to Him for their spiritual needs and are willing to suffer on account of their faith in Him. He continued on informing them of their purpose in this world - to preserve and give revelation of God. Then He tells them that He will fulfill the Law of Moses and that one day it will pass away. Finally, He warned the people not to have an external righteous (alone) like the pharisees if they hoped to enter His kingdom.

We all know that the Scripture teaches that God “shows no partiality”. This is a brief lesson as we take a closer look at that word in the original Greek text of the New Testament that states that fact - Romans 2:11.

After Jesus passed His test in the temptation in the wilderness, He is now ready to begin His public ministry. He sets up His headquarters in Capernaum and then chooses the first of His disciples. He began going about Galilee announcing that He is the Messiah, proving this with great signs and wonders of miraculous healings. As He preaches, teaches and perform these signs, large crowds begin to follow Him.
