  • Let's Talk: The Barrick Museum with Alisha Kerlin, Executive Director and Head Curator at The Barrick Museum

Join us as we talk about the beauty of life, exploration, and art. Dr. Tanya Crabb and guest host Ailisha Vaughn, are joined by Alisha Kerlin to discuss UNLV's Barrick Museum here at UNLV.

Alisha Kerlin encourages dialogue about art and ideas through interdisciplinary programs and innovative exhibitions linked to wide-ranging community outreach. With full graduate faculty status, she received the UNLV College of Fine Arts Outstanding Administrative Faculty of the Year in 2017. In the same year, she earned an inaugural UNLV Top Tier award, confirming her academic excellence, creative activity, and pursuit of research befitting a Top Tier institution. Kerlin played a vital role in the Barrick’s transition from UNLV’s “hidden jewel” into an award-winning university art museum. She introduced practices that brought the organization of the visual art collection in line with international museum standards. Committed to making the Barrick an accessible resource for all, she has created initiatives that target both the academic community and K-12 schoolchildren. In the first year, the Bus to the Barrick program brought over a thousand visitors to campus, most of them for the first time. Kerlin also rebranded the institution by adding “of Art” to the name, solidifying the fifty-year-old museum as a gathering place for the creative community. A graduate of the University of Tennessee (BFA) and the Milton Avery Graduate School of Arts, Bard College (MFA), she connects the university to a top-tier cohort of emerging scholars and artists. Kerlin’s own artwork has been shown at institutions ranging from P3Studio at The Cosmopolitan, Las Vegas, to the Museum of Modern Art’s PS1 Museum in New York.

  • Let's Talk: Sustainability with Tara Pike-Nordstrom, Recycling Facilities Manager and Andie Davis, UNLV Campus Community Garden Coordinator.

Did you know you can have your own garden here on campus? Tune in to learn more about UNLV's Community Garden, and how students like Tara Pike-Nordstrom and Andie Davis are serving the community of Las Vegas.

Andie Davis has a passion for plants that can be traced back to early high school. Now, her passion has carried into college, inspiring the sophomore to join the UNLV Community Garden as an intern in 2019 and work her way up to the community garden coordinator just a year later.

She knew the garden was a wonderful opportunity to bring campus closer together, so she set off on a mission to make this happen when in-person classes resumed in 2021.

“With relaunching the community garden, my goal was to bring the word ‘community’ back into the name.”

The UNLV Campus Community Garden is made up of 41 garden beds open to anyone in groups of four on campus, from registered student organizations to faculty, for the school year. The garden welcomes everyone — even those who lack a “green thumb” — as each group is provided with the information needed to make their gardens grow. The members are then welcome to take their food home and enjoy their hard work once the plants are grown.

Description: The facilities management department consists of multiple sections that are devoted to protecting and preserving state supported facilities, equipment and assets. These consist of some 69 buildings covering nearly 3.9 million square feet and 360 acres over the Maryland (332), Paradise (10) and Shadow Lane (18) campuses. Sections include work management, facilities maintenance, landscape and grounds, energy management, custodial services, Rebel Recycling and finance and business operations.

  • Let's Talk: UNLV Food Pantry Farmers Market 1 Year Anniversary with Cindy Romina Ballesteros-Paniagua, UNLV Student and Food Pantry Creator

Campus leaders like Cindy Romina Ballesteros-Paniagua are creating amazing resources for UNLV students in need. Tune in to hear about how the food pantry could benefit you and your loved ones!

The UNLV Food Pantry Farmers Market will be celebrating its one year anniversary in February! The potential date for our Farmers Market event is February 11, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM. The purpose of our Farmers Market event is to reduce food insecurity among the Las Vegas Community by providing additional food to support those in need. Anyone is welcome to come and obtain food. No identification is required. The food provided will vary including perishable, non-perishable and non-food items. There is no cost for anyone to attend our event.

This Farmers Market takes place in front of the Stan Fulton parking lot (900 Cottage Grove Ave, Las Vegas, NV 89119). During our event, individuals can obtain food through walk-up options. For our one year anniversary, we wanted to have other organizations and programs promoting their services for individuals to come and check out. We would prefer for the items provided to be at low to no cost, for many of the individuals who come are used to not providing monetary funds at our event. This would be a great opportunity for your organization to be promoted! We thought that since half of our attendees tend to be UNLV Students/Staff/Faculty that they could benefit from having the UNLV Caps from having a table promoting its services.
