Let's Unpack This

In this episode of 'Let's Unpack This', hosts Stephanie Drury and Andrew delve into the sermon of Josh McPherson, exploring themes of evangelicalism, homosexuality, and personal journeys of acceptance. They are joined by Kevin, who shares his experiences of coming out and reconciling his faith with his identity. The conversation critiques the views of conservative evangelicalism, discusses the significance of Pride Month, and reflects on the teachings of Jesus in relation to love and acceptance. In this conversation, the speakers delve into the complexities of biblical interpretations regarding homosexuality, the impact of LGBTQ+ acceptance on faith, and the intricate relationship between identity and beliefs. They discuss the self-loathing often exhibited by those who preach against LGBTQ+ rights and the broader implications of such rhetoric on individuals and communities. The conversation emphasizes the need for understanding and compassion in discussions about faith and sexuality, while also critiquing the selective interpretations of scripture that are often used to justify bigotry.

This week Andrew had enough, and we looked at some of the present day weirdness that is taking place in the evangelical right this week.

This episode certainly wasn't Stephanie's idea. Join us as we listen to a pre-2012 election episode of Dobson's radio show, as they definitely don't endorse anyone by name, absoluetly not.

This week we listen to Mark Driscoll speak about "11 Forbidden Sex Acts", but Andrew tells you how you can get around these pesky rules (spoiler: be rich and powerful and fit Mark's weirdo worldview).
Stephanie gets triggered, as per usual... and Andrew actually gave up on the rest of the sermon.

This week we sit down and check out clips from Grace Chapel in Castle Rock, Colorado. From the insanely presitgious Denver Seminary, Dr. Bryan Fields delivers some grade A bullshit, and Stephanie and Andrew tear it apart.

This week we take our first dive into Mark Driscoll's chaos and listen to him talk to a bunch of men about what victims they are.

Join us as we begin "Unpacking" some of the more influential and wild Evangelical Pastors, starting this week with Josh McPherson of Grace City Church near Stephanie in Wenatchee, Washington. He was kind enough to go to our main subject's church and deliver the first sermon of their savior's second term as president.
