Let's View It Again

Here's a little story about a man named John. We're talking about John McClane, folks. Continue on this 80's trip with Gene & Steph, as they discuss 1988's Die Hard. Yippee-ki-yay, melon farmers.

Director: John McTiernan Starring: Bruce Willis, Alan Rickman & Reginald VelJohnson

That's right, even more kung-fu from the gang with our 3rd and final episode of our martial arts suite. Come with us as we reach that upper level and discuss 1985's (Berry Gordy's) The Last Dragon.  Our minds, bodies, and souls are one.

Director: Michael Schultz

Starring: Taimak, Vanity, & Julius Carry

For part 2 of our special karate suite, Gene & Steph head into the kumite and discuss the gem that is 1988's Bloodsport. The film stars the incomparable Jean-Claude Van Damme, and his many, many splits. So many. Seriously, this film is chock full of 'em, guys.

Director: Newt Arnold Starring: Jean-Claude Van Damme, Donald Gibb, & Bolo Yeung.  #80smovies #couplecomedy #filmcriticisms #moviereview

Tune in next week for the final part of our martial arts series as we discuss the glow of 1985's The Last Dragon!

Another week, and another teen just kicking it (baddum ching) with an old guy. That's right, this week we're discussing 1984's The Karate Kid. And much like Doc & Marty, Danny & Miyagi are up to some dangerous & unsupervised 80's hijinks. Violence is never the answer, until it is.

And like the old Cobra Kai adage goes: Strike first. Strike hard. No mercy. By that we mean like, subscribe & share. Unmercifully.

Director: John Avildsen

Starring: Ralph Macchio & Pat Morita

Next week, tune in for more 1980's martial arts as we drop part 2 of our karate suite of episodes.

He's a teenager. He's also a werewolf. Dare we say he's a teen wolf?

That's right, it's time for the second episode in our Michael J. Fox suite. In addition to figuring out exactly what his "J" stands for, we also break down his classic film- 1985's Teen Wolf. Essentially, it's a coming-of-age story and one that a lot of us can relate to. Who amongst us hasn't struggled with the in's and out's of high school popularity and also being stricken with lycanthropy?

Director: Rod Daniel

Starring: Michael J. Fox, Susan Ursitti & James Hampton

Next week, an endearing tale about a maintenance man teaching a KID some KARATE through the magic of manual labor. See y'all then.

Season 2 P R E M I E R E ! ! ! !

We're not just back, we're waaaay back, baby. To the olden times of the 1980's we go this season. We're kicking this season off with the 1985 classic Back To The Future. We find out what a maverick is, discuss where Doc's getting his DeLorean money, and debate the merits of some light-hearted assault.   And just when you think you're all Foxed out, Michael J(ammin) Fox is back on next week's episode, where we discuss Teen Wolf.

Director: Robert Zemeckis

Starring: Michael J. Fox, Christopher Lloyd, Crispin Glover, & Lea Thompson.

Happy New Year, viewers!  Here's to the first (mini) episode of 2023 and it's a goodun. In addition to a classic music pick, we're talking about The Best Man again. This time it's about the Peacock series, though. Also, somehow, we discuss 227 & Dr. Sebi. Tune in to find out how any of this relates. See you guys in a few weeks with a real-deal episode to kick off season 2. We promise(?)

Ho, ho, ho you guys.

Gene & Steph are here to deliver cheer at this time of year. We're discussing 1996's The Preacher's Wife. A story where a most powerful angel desires and pursues a married woman; a tale as old as time. In addition to that juicy subject matter, we also find time to chat about the Commodores, Chad Butler, and Chiwetel Ejiofor.  Enjoy. And a Merry Chrimmuh to you all!

Director: Penny Marshall Starring: Whitney Houston, Denzel Washington, Courtney B. Vance & Jennifer Lewis

It's that time again. One final mini-episode before our Christmas episode(s?) and then we kick off the new season.

This week we briefly discuss Hulu's Reasonable Doubt and Steph drops an oldie-but-goodie for her music pick.

And another one.

Gene and Steph return with another shortie to delight your collective senses. While Gene does go on a rant detailing exactly why episode 2 is late (spoiler: skip Nope), we also bring you a few new favorites.  The movie pick for this week is a nice little comedy film from the UK. As for audio picks, we have two (neo? nouveau?) Jazz selections. Grammy-nominated suggestions, to boot. So give us a play why dontcha?
