Being trauma informed is very important when it comes to having children. Most parents believe that children don’t go through a lot, but they actually do. Some of the warning signs for dealing with trauma that you can look for in your child are withdrawal from usual hobbies or activities of their liking, anger outbursts, change in their food intake (may eat more or may eat less), may become more self-conscious of their image or may be more emotional than usual. If your child has experienced trauma or you’re unsure, tap into some of your local resources that you may have to see if they can assist. Look for support groups, youth programs, therapists, and other activities to help your youth get through their hardships. Lastly, be kind to yourself as a parent.
