Much of our life is spent working to experience more of being ONE while thinking of ourself as being separate. We value close relationships. We want to spend time with people who "get" us. We gravitate to people who are "like" us. All of this is an attempt to experience more of being ONE.
In fact we're happiest when we're spontaneous and not self conscious. That is when we're experiencing being ONE. When we're in the flow, in the present moment, we are experiencing being ONE. There are more ways to expeience being ONE. One of them is to recognize that when we heal ourself, we heal everyone else. That's something I'm working on being aware of.
Letting go of thinking of myself as separate and replacing that with experiencing myself as ONE with all that exists is a process. In some ways I think of it as using my mind to go beyond my mind. When I'm ONE I'm not thinking in the familiar sense. I'm spontaneous and their is no self consciousness (thinking of myself as separate).
