If we're having a problem with another person, it's because we're having trouble with ourself. That other person could be an employee, family member, neighbor or anyone else.
Once we are clear about our internal problem and how we choose to respond to that, it becomes clear on how to deal with the external problem.
To make this more relatable, here's an example.
I have a family member who is having health problems that have persisted and grown for more than a decade. I am conflicted about this situation. Part of me thinks the right action is to be loving, acceptive and supportive. Part of me is angry that they haven't found and implemented a solution to their problems. My goal is to resolve this conflict and be at peace with the situation.
To gain a more effective perspective of this situation, I need to see where I am having a similiar problem to my family member. As I look at the situation, I see that I have a conflict between what I know to be true and what I believe society says is true. I see that same conflict in my family member. I see in my life where the problems I create by not trusting myself create crisis that require I take ownership and act on what I know to be true even if I believe society disagrees. That's how I healed my back with meditation and acceptance.
Understanding my conflict results in me understanding my family member's conflict. We are both, to some degree, creating problems in our life that require us to more fully accept our power and what is true in order to address those problems. I know the more I am conscious of my internal conflict and self doubt, the less conflict and self doubt I experience. I feel stronger and more confident.
I know as I heal this conflict within myself, I will be healing it in others. Once again, the fact that the best thing I can do for others is to work on myself, is evident. My first book, "Healing Ourself, Healing the World", is based on this understanding. Links to that book and the others appear on my website, www.thoughtcoachingbyscott.com
