I know what works for me, and it is different than what most people would advise. Acting on thoughts that have uplifting emotions as part of them, works best for me. I meditate daily. In my meditation I listen to the thoughts that arise and take note of the emotion tied to each thought. I do my best to take note of the thoughts that have emotions I want more of in my life and act on those thoughts. Thoughts that have emotions that I don't want more of, I do my best to let go and choose not to act on them. I know that's not how most people go about living their life. I hope they find what works for them and do that. I wish success to everyone, regardless of how they define success.
Their is a longstanding pull to abondon focusing on what works for me and I know to be true in favor of adopting what works for others, or is commonly believed to work. I find I need to remind myself often to focus on what works for me, what I believe are the true measures of success, what I believe to be true rather than trying to adopt what others recommend. I listen to others and consider their input, and decide to act or not act on their advice depending on the emotion and resonance I feel connected to their advice.
Sometimes, I agree with the advice and don't seem to be able to access the energy and clarity to implement the suggestion. I've come to accept that sometimes I don't have access to the resources within myself at that moment to implement a suggestion I believe would beneficial to me and others. That's ok. I wanted to write a book for 20 years before I finally did. It took growth over decades to allow myself to write and publish books. Now, I've written and published 13 books as of this writing. The growth and clarity it takes to create something I want in myh life takes as long as it takes to achieve. Understanding what growth is requied to be effective at creating something in my life I desire has helped me be more efficient in my growth. I know that to create the contribution I desire to share with society, I need to accept and relate more fully to being ONE with all that exists. It's wonderful to know the cause of my success and be able to focus on that.
