For the final episode of the season, Keary C.’s diagnosis story is also the story of how she and her husband started their family — while living in Uganda to adopt their son, and then daughter. After a diabetic coma and the unexpected gift of learning about Zola, she and Keary have helped heal each other, as a mother and daughter both living with Type 1.

Starting with Eric’s diagnosis story and leading up to the birth of their daughter, Natalie and Eric embody the grace and shared resolve of living with Type 1.

Despite working night shifts and living in rural Virginia, Julie E. is committed to finding and preparing healthy food for her Type 1 daughter Abigail, and the rest of their family. Julie candidly shares how the post-diagnosis period challenged her relationships until the whole family accepted and embraced change.

After being diagnosed in his adulthood, John B. spontaneously joined a 1-mile walk and tried to run it. He couldn’t finish. That fueled his motivation to train for and ultimately complete several Ironman triathlons. He and his wife talk share how their candid communication around Type 1 has bolstered all aspects of their relationship.  

T1D Colleen R. lives outside of Columbus, Ohio with her husband Todd and two young boys. After Colleen was diagnosed as an eight year-old, her mother told her that her pancreas was sleeping. As a nurse, community organizer, role model, mom and wife — Colleen continues to carry that positive spin forward.
