Part 1 goes into Simesy's airleg days all throughout WA and Part 2 goes through his early Management days with Eltin. Within Part 2 there is a great bit on the early development of North Parkes that is well worth a listen.

 

Now in part 3 with Simesy, we talk about the backend of his career in his upper management days. He ran mines such as Golden Grove, oversaw the development of Gwalia deeps, started up the Degrussa Copper mine and then finished off with Northern Star running Plutonic and also did a bit at South Kal and Pogo. Plenty of great learnings in this episode for all the Engineers and Managers out there. Some episode highlights include:

Now before commencing Part 2 of 3 with Tony Sime, make sure you've listened to Part 1 first. We went into Simesy's early days on the airleg throughout WA in the 70s and 80s.

 

In Part 2 we go into Simesy's early Management days with Eltin, who were one of the first big Underground Contractors in WA. Simesy worked and managed many of the mines that are still around today, namely Bellevue, Leinster and North Parkes. There is a great section in here about the early development of North Parkes where it was run as a "Quality Assurance" mine.

Now the LEGENDS series has always been a popular one. I’ve been working on this bloke for 4 years and whether its out of guilt or curiosity, I’ve finally got him. My old boss, one of my biggest mentors and well-known figure in WA Mining, Mr Tony Sime.

 

Now as per usual, we yarned for about 2.5 hrs so I’ve split it up into 3 episodes. In this part 1, we go through how Simesy got into Mining and him getting on the airleg at a very young age. In these early years, he worked in and around Kambalda, Leinster, Laverton and Norseman (I probably missed some there). We also go into his victories in the rock drill comps, Simesy claims he invented the technique that Bub Butler uses when carrying the airleg back (Bub reckons he invented it so the jury is out).

Welcome to the first episode of the new and improved Life Of Mine. We're heading back to the foundations here, getting in deep with the life stories of those prominent within the Mining industry.

 

Our first episode is with Paul Bennett, Managing Director of Medallion Metals. Benno has had a very diverse career in Mining, where he originally commenced as a Mining Engineer and went all the way through to Underground Manager (after coming from a Victorian Timber mill). He then undertook a 9 year pivot to work for RMB, where he was involved in Financing Mining company's and deals. Paul was involved in the initial $15m that financed Bill Beament's Paulsens acquisition for Norther Star Resources, which laid the foundations for what Northern Star is today.

 

Benno is an absolute gentleman of a bloke and has a great story to tell, which paved the path for his current tenure with Medallion Metals.
