LFPWLI: Lisa Connor, How to Get to the Other Side of Unimaginable Grief
In this episode, Mathew, Troy, and Lisa discuss her journey which is full of loss, grief, pain, sickness, change, motivation, determination, healing, and hope. When Lisa was 44, her younger sister died of a stroke. Within two years of losing Jenny, Lisa’s mother passed away tragically due to Alzheimer's complications. Less than 4 months after losing her mother, she discovers her father after he’s passed away as well. Throughout this time, Lisa felt the responsibility and grief grow with each passing. However, she still managed to perform professionally as a Principal and personally as a wife and mom to two kids. Her health declined, but eventually, she regained her strength and felt like she was hitting her stride. Turns out life had other plans, as she was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer, but battled and survived it like the warrior she is.
Lisa Connor is a warrior. She is an educator, a wife, and a mom. She tells us a story within a story about what it means to grieve as a sister, a daughter, a wife, a mom, and a patient herself. She describes what it’s like to feel as though you've lost everything and still make the decision to keep moving forward anyway. Her story is for anyone dealing with a loss or a diagnosis that makes them feel like there is no way out. She is a living testament to the fact that you can persevere, and if you do there is a life and a light on the other side.
“People get stuck [in grief] because they don't want to live their lives… they feel like they are leaving somebody behind.”
