As we begin our summer sermon series this week, Pastor Ben transitions into the idea of loving your neighbor. Jesus dealt with religious leaders who believed that the Godly life involved performing tasks. They had to be taught that God's true desire is relationship. However, they had decided to quit when they encountered resistance from surrounding people groups. Instead of building the Lord's temple, they retreated to build their own homes. As we continue in the series of The Story, Pastor Doug discusses how God allowed the Kingdom of Judah to fall as did the Kingdom of Israel. God’s people had become expectant of God’s mercy and compassion on them while ignoring His holiness and justice. We need to live our everyday lives in view of the entire character of God. His plan is to show Himself to the world through us, so we need to be wary of the way we show our Lord to the rest of the world.
