Excellent - loved it!

I loved this book and didn't want it to end. I also loved Monique's other book "The White Woman on the Green Bicycle". I guess the truth is I'm sick of books that are too ... feminine. I'm a woman, but I'm tired of everything being all flowery and everyone going on and on about their feelings. Not that Monique doesn't delve into the feelings of the characters, because you know exactly how each of them feels, what losses/challenges they're experiencing, etc. But she's got a good dose of masculine energy in her writing which is refreshing to me. I'm not sure how else to describe it.

Monique's descriptions of what it's like to be alone out at sea were exceptional. I really feel like I got it, even though I've never had the experience. Worth the money!

Tabanca and Hope

Archipelago was the perfect mix of heartbreak (tabanca), hope, and healing for my current life status. I enjoyed the soothing lull of the ocean as I read about sailing from Trinidad to the Galapagos. It brought me some peace during my own turbulent days. I may have dragged out reading it partially because I so enjoyed imagining running away and sailing myself. To leave all of the excess and drama behind, only to come back to it with a renewed sense of purpose and peace.

An excellent and moving read

The story of a husband and father's journey with his daughter to escape the terrible aftermath of a flood in Trinidad. A moving and eloquent book about grief, loss, love and maritime adventure among others things.

Beautifully written - poignant story, splendid descriptions of terrain and the moods of the sea!

Loved this book. Roffey had my attention the whole time I read it. Tragically beautiful. Gives such great imagery of the Caribbean lifestyle.

A Very Enjoyable Read!

Bridget Asher offers a wonderful read in her novel âThe Provence Cure for the Broken-hearted.â She is a great story teller who takes the reader from love to grief to love again. This is a story about family...with all their flaws and scars...and redemption and forgiveness and the chain of events that mysteriously surround so much of where life takes us. The book is about parenting and the love of parents for their children in even the most challenging of times, as well as the complexity of commitment to oneâs children and oneâs self. I highly recommend this book to any reader looking forward to a highly thoughtful and rewarding literary experience.

I am 30% through the book and she hasn't even decided to go to Provence yet. One day has passed. If you want to read a woman mourn in her head endlessly, this is the book for you. If you want any story advancement then pick something else.

A good read

So much more than a romance. The characters were well developed and likable and flawed, like all of us. I adored the whimsy(but was it really?) In retrospect, a twisty-turny plot that flows smoothly, like chocolate sauce.

Broken

Until the main characters arrived in Paris, I was ready to give up on this book. Moved exceedingly slow and consumed with grief.

With new scenery and new plot development allâs well.

What a lovely story told with rich description. This story is like having a ripe peach perfectly picked. I enjoyed it immensely.

Interesting and disappointing

"Whatever It Takes" promises a plausible and interesting story-line; carefully crafted characters; and realistic settings.

In some ways, Adele Parks has achieved those expectations with a close study of the dynamics of family life, the power of friendships, and rather strong influence of the environment on individual people - their self-image, their goals and their moral compass.

The possibilities for a quality read are ruined by lengthy and repetitive "preaching" .......literally forcing the writer's moral stance down the throat of the reader.......has the writer no concept of subtlety and the power of suggestion, imagery and understatement? Maybe she has taken her interpretation of the title just too far!

Quite dramatic

This would be a great book for anyone who has suffered with IVF Treatments and the process. It delves quite extensively into the emotional effects of that and I was interested in the novel but found it to be quite heavy reading at times. I did get irritated with some of the characters in the novel and perhaps not the book to read if you are still in your 20's or don't have any children. It did however touch on interesting issues from an emotional point of view.

Started well but went downhill from there.

An easy read with a good plot, however, the ending seemed to go against everything we had learnt about the main character and was not well thought out. Why would a man who finally had a son after years of trying agree to change his surname for no good reason?

A convenient but implausible ending.

Bit frustrating

I enjoyed this book but found some of the characters behaviour a bit frustrating. Easy escapism and a good fun way to spend some time whilst on holiday.

Russel Smith sets this novel in what feels like lost corners of Toronto, which is appropriate given his lost protagonist, Justin. As he begins to bounce along his erotic journey we sense his unraveling and inability to make sense of a world that is more chaotic and disturbing that he anticipated. From sex through video games he seems unable to locate his core and move forward. While proccupied with an object of desire in the end she only seems to reinforce his emptiness. Smith is a good stylist; it is easy to place yourself in the story; to see and feel what the characters experience. He puts his sideline as a fashion writer to good use by providing us with a clear eye on an uncertain world. Worth reading.
