She's on a roll: A glamorous job at a glossy magazine. A home of her own. A cute live-in boyfriend. Annie Rafferty has worked damn hard for all of it. If demands are made, she delivers. If people need her, she's there. And if she suspects something is missing? Well, she ignores it. But cracks start to appear. Her boyfriend leaves his job, and Annie is paying the bills. Work descends into a handbags-at-dawn struggle for survival, and there's a new exec in the office - rude, opinionated but strangely attractive - questioning exactly what she's trying to prove.

Entertaining enough
I am fairly new to the "chick lit" genre and was hoping for a lot of comical relief when I bought this book. Although it was entertaining enough, I was not overly entertained and rarely laughed while reading the book. I wouldn't have minded if I had borrowed the book from the library. I would suggest borrowing it rather than buying it.
Enjoyable read
This is the story of Annie, a journalist dealing with ageing parents, flighty sister, cut-throat magazine life and love troubles....a lot packed in to the story, but well written so its an enjoyable read. The characters are well developed, and the ones you are meant to like - you do! Especially enjoyable is the interaction of Annie and her family. Some of the scenes with the parents are very touching and realistic without ever being over the top and cliched.
I would have liked the ending to be a little longer; it seemed to end a bit too sudden and believed the book would have benefited with maybe one more chapter.
Overall, a good and quick read.
