In our frantic world, we all need time to stop and breathe. But how can we nurture our inner beings when the outer world demands so much? Waiting for Our Souls to Catch Up invites listeners to begin a journey of the heart and mind in which a small effort of faith, guided by reason, can yield huge spiritual dividends. From the small rituals that enhance our daily lives to the study of the historical and scriptural legacy shared by the world's great religions, Waiting for Our Souls to Catch Up is an intelligent guide to the wisdom of the ages.
Sister Carol Perry is the "nun in the basement" at Marble Collegiate, the oldest Protestant congregation with continuous service in North America, made famous by Norman Vincent Peale (The Power of Positive Thinking). A Catholic nun, Sister Carol has been the resident Bible scholar at Marble for three decades. She is the co-author of Called and Sent and has been a recipient of two National Endowment for the Humanities grants. She was selected as an Educator of the Year by the Association of Teachers of New York and has lectured across the country on scripture, Christian feminism, and the role of women in the biblical world. A Sister of St. Ursula, she is a graduate of Fordham University and earned an M.A. in Theology at St. Mary's, Notre Dame.

Spirituality and Rationality
I thought that this was an excellent book- well-written, thoughtful, spiritual, and certainly a book that you would want to read. I'm in a study group of 12 and have ordered that many for our group to study. I also ordered it on kindle and could very easily study it on my own. Never have I learned more about the 3 main religions, especially Christianity, and in a well- written and easy to understand book. It's outstanding and I'll learn more after my group has studied it.
Lessons to Live By
Carol Perry brings the Bible alive. She tells it in terms we can understand.
You can hear the clip clop of the sandals on the cobble stone streets in the Holy Land.
Not only is Sr. Carol a great scholar; she is a warm and down to earth human being.
A joy to read and reread! Tap the book image to "Look inside" and decide for yourself.
A perfectly crafted, motivating and down-to-earth book that I found difficult to put down. However, that happened whenever I came across a Bible reference and felt compelled to 'check it out right now'. Carol brings the Bible to life and puts its parts into historical and cultural perspective. Her storytelling skills are incomparable as witnessed during her Bible study videos available online at Marble Collegiate Church.
'Look inside' Chapter 1 and discover a reason to reflect: "We have been going too fast. We must stay here and wait for our souls to catch up with us" (from a 19th century African story).
No Need to Wait! Sr. Carol unleashes the Bible with her new book!
This is a must read if you are on a spiritual journey and "need a lamp unto your feet" to get through all the delights the bible has to offer.
If you are like me, you are a Catholic and are used to having the scripture passages "tied up with strings in neat little packages" called the sacraments. Only priests are allowed to untie the ribbons and give you the gift which promises God's grace.
