Ok, I know some will come for me and it's ok. TRUST ME. This wouldn't be the first time. I stand on this, hygiene can not be confused with mental health treatment. It's not, it's not even self-care. Self-care is things you do that heal the mind, body, and spirit. The only thing you gain from the hairdresser, nail salon, concerts, drugs, and sex are short bouts of relief from reality. After that, you're back in the swing of what your reality is. Did those actions give you anything more to relieve the tension you constantly experience and feel? Did it gift you anything that could be used long-term to grow past these struggles?
To be clear, I am not saying to do these things, I am simply saying don't place them in the category as a healing tool for mental health. Those are not the tools you reach for when life gets rough and challenging.
