At Christmas, Bedford and Beesley tuck into yet another breakfast while cogitating over Beatles history! In this episode, David and Paul discuss the importance of The Beatles going to Hamburg and what would have happened if they hadn’t.

Exactly 3 years later on 9th February 1964, The Beatles made their debut on the Ed Sullivan Show in front of 73 million people.

In our latest episode, David interviews Bill Zygmant who photographed The Beatles, John and Yoko and many stars of the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s. Bill has a new book just out, with his photographs, accompanied by David’s interviews with Bill and other contextual history. With design by Paul Skellett, there is a Limited Edition Hardback available from The Beatles Bookstore.

The biggest crowd the Beatles ever appeared in front of was in Adelaide, Australia. But the Beatles had more connections with Southern Australia then just that 1964 tour.

Michael Savvas, together with his daughter Olivia, has written a fascinating book full of amazing stories, including the Beatles amazing 1964 tour. The book cover was also designed by Klaus Voormann, the friend of The Beatles from Hamburg, who also designed the album cover to Revolver. The foreword was written by May Pang, John Lennon’s girlfriend in New York during his “Lost Weekend”.

The disastrous Beatles gig in Aldershot in December 1961 ended Sam Leach’s hope of becoming the manager of The Beatles and confirmed the feelings of John, Paul, George and Pete that Brian Epstein was the man to manage them.

Only 18 people turned up to that gig, a number that included The Beatles. In “Finding the Fourth Beatle“, David Bedford interviewed Terry McCann, Sam Leach’s trusted minder, who explained how the gig came to be in Aldershot. He also spoke with Alan Hope, who has a fascinating insight and played his part in what happened that night. Alan has since written his own incredible book, which talks about the musicians he has worked with and the Monster Raving Loony Party too!
