We discuss the dynamics of female friendship in this episode. I am joined back again by my friend Enuma to share the importance and dynamics of female friendships. She shared her experience with her friend groups, what she looks out for in a friend, how she has become a better friend as she's grown older/matured especially around setting and respecting her friend's boundaries. We talked about deal breakers and red flags in friendships and signs of a good or bad friend. Making friends as an adult is particularly difficult especially when you're introverted but can be worth it when you find your tribe. We talked about how friendships can be cultural where different cultures e.g. Americans don't easily warm up to you even though you think they are your friends.

Tia is back to share what causes conflict in her American Nigerian intercultural marriage. The main issue she shares is gender roles in marriage and how the cultural difference between her as an American and her Nigerian husband shows up in their marriage. While she takes care of the home, the baby and works, she expects her husband to step up as well and help. She acknowledges that even though her husband grew up in the traditional African culture which grooms men to be providers and not home makers, he is doing his best to support her. She expects 50/50 equal sharing of responsibilities in the home as that is consistent with her American upbringing. She doesn't believe in the traditional gender roles and believes men (husbands) should support their wives and share equal responsibility in the home front as much as they are providing. Culture plays a huge part in how we show up in the world and navigating an intercultural marriage comes with few challenges and lots of benefits of meshing cultures. She appreciates how her husband lead, takes care and provides for the family which is not very typical in American culture.

Tia shares how she met her husband on a dating app and they got married 9 months later. This is a beautiful intercultural love story between Tia, an African American and her husband, a Nigerian. Tia details how they met on an online dating app (Hinge). She was initially hesitant to swipe left on him because his profile picture wasn't picture perfect however, upon meeting him she was pleasantly surprised and they started dating. She quickly fell in love and he asked her to be his girlfriend only after a couple of dates. He proposed to her 6 months and they got married 9 months later. They welcomed a baby boy a little over a year after their marriage and have been great growing their family. She shares about the cultural differences she's experienced being married to a Nigerian man and how they have incorporated therapy/counseling into their marriage to help them with their communication and understanding each other better. She also shares how her American family and friends received her Nigerian husband. She enjoys learning all about the Nigerian culture, the food, language and is excited to travel to Nigeria soon. I am joined by my friend Enuma who shared How she navigated life as an international student in USA: Identity, making friends, finances, academics, etc. We discussed everything from financial struggles to culture shocks, academic achievements, finding identity, communicating with Americans, making friends, etc. She talked about why she chose the USA for grad school. As a Nigerian coming to America as an international student, she experienced a few culture shocks and struggled a bit with the food and the high tuition that comes with college education. However, she was able to adapt and got the funding/assistantship she needed to finish her program. She got a lot of support from her professors and so thrived academically. She said America has made her very conscious and proud of her identity as a black woman who is proud of her accent, color, ethnicity and culture. She encourages fellow immigrants to be proud of where they're from and aim to represent their country of origin with great pride. In this episode, was basically a chitchat about our experiences living in America as immigrants.

Is living in America (USA) still worth it for immigrants in 2026? I talked about the pros and cons of living in America as an immigrant. With the recent travel restrictions and visa bans in 2026, it's become more difficult and unsettling for a lot of intending immigrants into America. Despite all of that, America is still one of the best countries for immigrants to live in and thrive. It provides loads of opportunities to build the type of life you want for yourself. A lot of immigrants travel across seas with just the clothes on their back and they work hard and become millionaires in America. America is a country where you can easily re-invent your life, career, business, etc at any point in your life either as a young person or someone in their 40s, 50s, 60s. Asides these pros, America isn't for everyone because it can be quite lonely and isolating if you don't have a good community of friends. If you're someone who is driven and ambitious, America is for you but if you're someone who community and family is more important to, then migrating to America might not be for you. Other cons like high cost of living, crime rate, etc can also be a source of concern for some people. Even though America isn't perfect, it is still a great place to succeed as an immigrant.

In this episode, i shared some of my life regrets now that I'm in my 40s. My hope is that young people in their 20s & 30s learn from my mistakes so that they don't repeat it. Life goes by so fast and if we're not careful, we waste precious moments and opportunities. On this episode we discussed why society gives up on single people in their 40s and how to find purpose during your waiting season. I am joined by Jayne who is a writer, publisher, author's midwife, a ministry leader and founder of SIWON (sisters in waiting outreach network) which is a ministry targeted at single women in waiting, helping them find purpose in their single season. We discussed so many topics around singleness and societal expectations. It is important for single people to find discover why they are single, are there lessons to be learned or characters to cultivate while waiting? Jayne shared with us how she has been able to reframe her mindset to find purpose and meaning in her singleness. She believes being single is not a thing of shame however, we should use it to be productive and be useful to others through our life's experiences. She dispelled a lot of myth around singleness and marriages. Marriage is not a destination and is not the greatest achievement in one's life. Also, there's no formula to finding a spouse, everything happens according to God's timeline so we must submit to his greater will & purpose for our lives. She also talked about women and submission, men needing to be leaders and not just being heads of households, women being in their masculine energy, etc. This was a very deep and interesting conversation.

In this episode we talked about "Omugwo" which is an African tradition of postpartum care for nursing moms. Amaka shared her omugwo story and how the support of her mom's omugwo has helped with her quick recovery after childbirth. We talked about some myths about omugwo care (e.g. hot water compresses, pepper soup recipe, etc and its effectiveness). We also debated if it was acceptable to pay grandmas or relatives doing omugwo. While we disagreed on the method/ modality of payment, we agreed it was fair to appreciate them either financially or with gifts at some point. We also also talked about why some husbands pushback on their wives going for omugwo and abandoning them for extended length of time. This was a hearty familial episode. 3 kids later: The reality of motherhood, pregnancy, parenting & raising boys. In this episode, i am joined by my lovely co-host Amaka and she shared her motherhood journey. She just gave birth to her 3rd baby and took us through the journey of all her pregnancies. We talked about the waiting season especially for women who are struggling with fertility issues, Amaka shared some encouraging words with them. We also talked about parenting, Amaka shared how she is intentionally raising her boys to be good husbands and fathers in the future. She also talked about the beauty and struggles of motherhood, how having her kids have changed her and given her so much more purpose and love. We briefly talked about surrogacy and why it shouldn't be abused or debased but it's a good option for women who are dealing with infertility. We also talked about how women are now openly talking about infertility struggles compared to the 80s where people didn't share much about their personal struggles.
