1971 - Design Space just opened their latest exhibition Fashcultivate. Curated by fashion designer Khulood Thani and Fatma Al Mahmoud, Head of 1971 - Design Space, it uses one of the UAE’s most enduring symbols, the date palm, as a source of inspiration for artists and designers to create commissioned design pieces.
Fashcultivate brings together the work of some of the region’s most exciting artists and designers including Emirati designers Khalid Mezaina, Asma Al Mazrouie, Maryam Omaira and Hessa Al Suwaidi, with renowned regional designers Faissal El Malak, Shahd Al Shehail and Hala Kaiksow.
The designers were invited to work on commissioned contemporary design and textile pieces referencing the date palm’s various functions, structures and haptics.
Sally welcomes to the Life Beats studio designers Khalid Mezaina, and Hessa Al Suwaidi, as well as Fatma Al Mahmoud, Head of 1971 Design Space to find out more.
