More than simply a response to the altruistic call of social responsibility, the participation of entrepreneurs in the burgeoning sustainable fashion industry is also, at the bottom line, a smart business decision. Climate change and social strife are existential dangers, and because of that, are huge business risks that currently have—and will continue to have—a very direct negative impact on every sector within the fashion industry.
Indeed, the future of the fashion industry, our environment, and our communities depend on adopting a new paradigm that opts out of the abhorrent practices currently and historically plaguing fashion. The only way forward is for fashion entrepreneurs to become a part of an entirely new conscious fashion economy: one that is rooted in responsible growth, sustainability, and circular design.
So, how do you become a successful fashion entrepreneur within this new industry?
In this show-post and the corresponding episode of the Social Entrepreneurship and Innovation Podcast, we speak with Caroline Priebe, founder of the Center for the Advancement of Garment Making (CAGM) and seasoned design director and sustainability strategist, to better understand the practices a fashion entre

Fashion, as we know it, is linear. From material extraction to textile production, design, manufacturing, sales, marketing, and end of life, the fashion industry is designed to maximize clothing sales. But what if that business model could shift?
Changemakers are reimagining the business of fashion, designing circular systems, and disrupting the status quo to build a truly sustainable industry.
Cory spoke with two of those changemakers on the Social Entrepreneurship and Innovation Podcast, Asheen Phansey and Monica Park of circular fashion business consultancy and Public Benefit Corporation Eleven Radius. This discussion of the circular fashion economy and how business solutions can help us break the fast fashion cycle is the newest installment of our Impact of Fashion series in partnership with Dhana.
Check out earlier episodes to learn about the Rhana Plaza Collapse, Inclusivity & Sustainability in Fashion, How to Avoid Fast Fashion, and the concept of circular fashion, then listen to this great conversation all about the business of circularity in fashion!

Without a doubt, starting your first business has been or will be one of the most challenging ventures you’ve ever set out to accomplish.
However, as a social entrepreneur, you’ll face even greater challenges. From the beginning, you’ll need to have a much grander vision for the influence and impact your business might potentially have. Additionally, social entrepreneurs must solve problems in a way that doesn’t involve cutting corners, putting people or the environment in harm’s way, or sacrificing the core values that are at the heart of their personal beliefs and businesses.
Beyond this, successful entrepreneurs operating within the sustainable capitalism movement must use their mission-driven business to create solutions for the large-scale issues that we face to lead their industry into a future of sustainability and regeneration.
Needless to say, that’s a lot to have on your plate!
You’re going to need help, and since the road to success often means heeding the advice of those who have already succeeded, we sat down with Giancarlo Marcaccini, a successful entrepreneur and the CEO of Yogi Tea Company, which is otherwise known as East West Tea Company.
In our Episode with Giancarlo we discuss:
Throughout the conversation, Marcaccini gives us his best entrepreneurial tips and pieces of business advice for aspiring social entrepreneurs, and he explains how and why they are necessary for entrepreneurial success.
