In this episode of the Total Buckets Podcast, Felipe talks to this week's guest, Harry, about his first-year experience in the Basketball Life Fantasy Basketball League.
The guys delve into Harry's strategy coming into this year's draft and some of the things he's learning in this new league as well as sharing the things that he likes and does not like about the league.
A lot of the talk centered around Harry's 1st round pick of Jalen Brunson, however. With Jayson Tatum already on the team (as his keeper player), the show talks about the possibility of drafting Anthony Edwards or Tyerese Haliburton instead.
Felipe is joined by James as they recapped the annual Basketball Life Fantasy Basketball Draft. This year, all teams got to keep one player from their roster entering this year's draft.
The guys shared the picks that they liked, did not like, and why they hated drafting in the backend of the draft this season, as both participants experienced an unusual amount of "sniping" that took place in this year's draft.
Felipe is joined by former podcast partner Matt (both were part of The Men Up North Podcast) and talk about the Chicago Bears, the learning curve being experienced by rookie Caleb Williams, and the seemingly limitless potential of the Bears' defense.
They guys then switched gears and talked about their fantasy football seasons, what their draft strategies were during fantasy drafts, and what they plan to do the rest of the year at each position.
Felipe is joined by James in this episode of the Total Bases Podcast as he runs his victory lap and smokes his victory cigar as he celebrates winning the Baseball Life Fantasy Baseball League and witnessed his New York Mets advanced to the National League Championship Series.
James shared his thoughts on the past baseball season and what he learned along the way en route to a championship.
A former college pitcher, James also shares his insights on the difficulties of the art of pitching and how it explains why, even though pitching got the upper hand on the hitters in 2024, they both agreed that starting pitching was lacking a lot of depth this past season.
Felipe is joined by Angel this week to discuss the happenings of the Baseball Life Fantasy Baseball League as the guys shared what went right, what went wrong, and how to move forward in preparation to get ready for 2025 fantasy baseball drafts.
The guys also took a look at the league-wide trends in baseball and try to answer the question that has been a central theme of this year's podcast season: did the 2023 rule changes actually work?
The show then continued a discussion that stemmed from the Baseball Life Facebook group about Luis Arraez and the popular notion that "old school" baseball can still be an effective way to produce in modern baseball, but is Arraez the blueprint for other high-contact players to follow? Or is he just an anomaly (the only .300 hitter with less than 10 homeruns)?
On the other hand, a player with similar skillset, saw improvements in terms of the analytical statistics and saw a breakout year in Arraez's teammate, Jurickson Profar.
The guys also get into a deep discussion about finding the balance between their real life while maintaining their fantasy baseball teams.
Melvin of the Baseball Cosmos Facebook page joins Felipe to discuss all the things that went right and wrong en route to his first fantasy baseball championship in the Total Bases Podcast Fantasy Baseball League.
The guys also share their frustration on the Chicago Cubs underachieving this year and are resigned to the fact that this will be the new norm for the next 10 years because of Jackson Chourio and the Milwaukee Brewers.
They also try to figure out why the modern baseball player seems to be more fragile than their predecessor, which led to talks about the pros and cons of using Tony Gwynn to compare Luis Arraez.
Other discussions include the joys of meshing of "real" and fantasy baseball and why it's no longer frowned upon like it used to before as they transition into talking about the retirement of Adrian Wojnarowski as he gets set to be the GM of St. Bonaventure's basketball program, which led the guys to name other examples of baseball writers who gave up their sportswriting gigs for a chance to work in MLB front offices.
Felipe talks about a few surprises and disappointments from this past 2024 Major League Baseball season as he spotlights a few hitters who have played well above expectations (like Jarren Duran of the Boston Red Sox) and hitters who have been huge letdowns this season (the Chicago Cubs' Dansby Swanson for example).
The show ends with Felipe trying to figure out these players' draft value for 2025 fantasy baseball drafts.
Felipe is joined by Derek and Doug as they live-react the annual Auto Draft Kings' fantasy football draft as Felipe takes a break from the playoff hunts in his baseball league to once again try his luck with football.
Derek was trying to contemplate which Green Bay Packers' player he would select first (Jordan Love), while Doug was trying to figure out which deep sleeper tight end would be his TE3 (Dawson Knox).
Meanwhile, Felipe did something he has not done in any of his mock or real drafts: selecting a quarterback in the single-digit rounds (Kyler Murray).
The guys also shared some of their strategy that has worked for them in the last 25 years of fantasy football drafts.
In this episode of the podcast, Felipe is joined by James and Noah live to participate in the inaugural Felipe Invitational Fantasy Football League.
Catch all the twist and turns of this 12-team fantasy football draft as our crew react live to every selection made, as Noah and Felipe play quarterback chicken to see who will pick a quarterback last.
Felipe highlights six Major League Baseball hitters (plus two prospects) that he thinks are worth picking up off waivers for the fantasy baseball playoffs' stretch run.
