The People Around Us

Life hasn't gone to plan & that's finally Ok - Darren Payne - PART B

Listen Later

NOTE: Please listen to Part A beforehand to get full context of this episode.

Darren is the creator and co-host of the podcast and this episode is the first of 3 focussing on the lives of the hosts so far.

Darren was surrounded by love, support and opportunities throughout his childhood and is the first to admit how lucky he is.  A very promising junior AFL footballer, he seemed destined to have a long career in the AFL playing for his families beloved team the "Fitzroy Football Club." Unfortunately for a variety of reasons that were both circumstantial and by his admission his own doing, this didn't quite eventuate as he hoped. As Darren has matured and reflected on this time, his somewhat over-thinking personality has been the cause of significant angst throughout his life that he's had to learn to live with and is only recently getting on top of things in this space as a now 48 year old.

Ten years later, Darren found himself living in Perth on the other side of Australia to where he grew up in Melbourne after the breakdown of his marriage. A decision he made to be close to his kids and an active father like he had growing up. It was a scary time where he found out who his real friends were and when he had to deal with loneliness and significant depression for 5-6 years. It was a tough time for Darren and all around him. However, through learned resilience on the run, a fierce appetite to understand himself and his ability to thrive amongst others in a like minded community, he got through it which was also fuelled by the intense love for his kids.

All of these experiences have influenced Darren's life to be where it is today which Darren vulnerably opens up about including the creation of this podcast for others.

This is the story of our creator and Co-host, Darren Payne. Enjoy !
