Colossians 1:9-12

3 Pillars of the Christian Life: I. Knowing 2. Doing 3. Becoming  

 I.  He Prayed That They Would Know More - v. 9 Colossians 1:9 NIV "For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives,"

 2. He Prayed That They Might do More - v.10 Colossians 1:10 NIV "so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God," - we need to do more of the work of Christ - in the Christian life, knowledge and obedience go hand in hand.  

3. He prayed That They Might Become More Like Christ - v.11-12 - 

Conclusion: - we need to know the will of Christ, we need to do the work of Christ and we need to become more like Christ. - Knowing, doing, becoming Application: >Knowing - read your Bible at least 15min./day or read through the Bible in a year. A commitment to memorize scripture, a passage every day. Plan to grow in your knowledge of God's Word. >Doing - obey the Word, share the Word.... >Becoming - like Christ (positive attitude such as patience, thankfulness and humility) , servant attitude and love that so characterized the life of Christ. In whatever we do, plan to grow in your efforts to become more like Christ. Amen. Glory to God!

"Nothing shall Separate"

Romans 8:35 NIV

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword?

Mga Taga-Roma 8:34-35

34]Sino ang hahatol na sila'y parusahan?

Si Cristo Jesus na pinatay, ngunit higit sa lahat ay muling binuhay, ngayon ay nasa kanan ng Diyos "UPANG MAMAGITAN PARA SA ATIN."

35]Sino ang makapaghihiwalay sa atin sa pag-ibig ni Cristo?

Ang kaguluhan kaya,

ang kapighatian,

Ang pag-uusig,

Ang pagkagutom,

Ang kahirapan,

Ang panganib, o

Ang kamatayan?

We have good assurance of our preservation and continuance in this blessed state, v. 35, to the end.

We are more than conquerors. In our patiently bearing these trials (Pandemic) we are not only conquerors, but more than conquerors, that is, triumphers.

Life to the fullest everyone

But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength;

Isaiah 40:28-31 NIV

28] Do you not know? Have you not heard?

The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom.

29] He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak.

30] Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall;

31] but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

SOME BIBLICAL EXAMPLES OF WAITING UPON THE LORD:

A. ABRAHAM AND SARAH (FOR ISAAC)

B. NOAH (FOR THE FLOOD AND SUBSIDING WATERS)

C. JOSEPH (FOR HIS "TIME" IN POWER)

D. JESUS (FOR THE "TIME TO BE FULFILLED")

E. MARY AND MARTHA (FOR JESUS TO ARRIVE WHEN LAZRUS DIED.

F. THE DISCIPLES (FOR THE PROMISED HOLY SPIRIT)

G. ALL BELIEVERS (AWAITING HIS RETURN)

IN EACH CASE THEY

1. KNEW GOD’S PROMISES

2. RESTED IN GOD’S CHARACTER

3. RELIED UPON HIS LOVE

IN EACH CASE, IT WAS WORTH THE WAIT!!

I - FOR THOSE WHO WAIT ON THE LORD-THEY WILL HAVE INWARD STRENGTH:

V31a

But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength;

He is not talking about physical strength here, but he is talking about inward strength.

2 Corinthians 4:16-18 NIV

16] Therefore we do not lose heart.

Though outwardly we are wasting away,

yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day.

17] For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.

18] So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

The people in Isaiah’s day were in captivity, they needed inward strength to give them power over temptation.

According to Ephesians 6:10,

God commands us to be strong Christians.

There is a song that I listen to every now and then that says this:

> The God on the Mountain

Is still God in the valley

> When things go wrong

He’ll make them right

> The God of the Good Times

Is still God in the Bad Times

> The God of the Day

Is still God in the Night

That’s the God that we serve.

The devil will come to you with his temptation, but remember the words of

I John 4:4

“greater is He that is in you, than he that is in the world.”

> Daniel had that inner strength from God, that is the reason he was able to Stand.

Introduction:

When we say “passion,” it talks about an activity or an event we want or we love to do. Like for example, some have passion for music like I do and some have passion in dancing, etc.

In Christianity, when we hear the word “passion,” the first thing that comes to our mind is the “Passion of Christ.”

In our generation today, what are the passions of the people around us? Some have their passion on their career (business; jobs), passion on social media (FB, Vlog, Gaming) passion for health (gym,diet), passion for love (dating; living-in).

Passion is one of those words that people use often without really understanding the original meaning of the word. When most people refer to "passion", they use it to mean strong emotions reflecting an intense desire or boundless enthusiasm.

But here’s a definition from Kevin Hall of what passion is that I think really have the true meaning of it. Passion is the willingness to suffer for what you love. -Kevin Hall

Now, I would like to ask you, as a Christian what is your passion? Or let us ask ourselves right now, what is my passion before or when the time that I met and accept Jesus? Is it still the same passion I have now?

THE OVER-COMER’S HONOUR

John 16:31-33

31 "You believe at last!" Jesus answered. 32 "But a time is coming, and has come, when you will be scattered, each to his own home. You will leave me all alone. Yet I am not alone, for my Father is with me. 33 "I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."

 There are 4 major things I want us to notice in this statement

GOD EXPECTS NOTHING BUT VICTORY

1. In the world you shall have tribulation

 1 Pet. 5:8 - "because your adversary the devil as a roaring lion and emphasizes that there is a spiritual warfare that we are involved in

 Eph. 6:12, "For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places". 

WE ARE DESTINED TO WIN

2. Be of good cheer, i.e. be bold and courageous

"To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life" - Rev. 2:7

"He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death" - Rev. 2:11

"To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna" - Rev. 2:17

"And he that overcometh will I give power over the nations" - Rev. 2:26

"He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment" - Rev. 3:5

"Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God" - Rev. 3:12

"To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne" - Rev. 3:21

LEAVE SATAN IN THE DUST

3. I have overcome the world, the world is "overcome-able"

"And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it" - Col. 2:15 

"that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil" - Heb. 2:14. 

4. He wants us to find peace in Him

*The fourth thing Jesus said in Jn. 16:33 is "These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace". 

*Child of God, you cannot even fight successfully without a revelation of peace.( Ex. Gideon)

*Child of God, you have been given His peace, so be bold and courageous, for we are more than conquerors in Christ. This is your honour, walk in it! keep feeding your faith and starve your doubts to death.

Christ is Risen, our Faith is not in Vain

1 Cor. 15:14,17

If Christ is not risen, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain. 17 And if Christ is not risen your faith is futile; you are still in your sins" 

WHAT RESSURECTION MEANS?

I. The resurrection means, He is our Lord and God

John 20:27-29

 27] Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.” 

28] Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!” 

29] Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

II. The Resurrection Means that Sins are Forgiven.

1 Corinthians 15:14, 17

"If Christ is not risen, then our preaching is in vain and your faith is in vain. And if Christ is not risen you faith is futile; you are still in your sins"

III.  The Resurrection Means that New Life is Available

Romans 8:11

"But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His spirit who dwells in you." 

IV. The Resurrection taking Dominion.

Mark 16:19-20 NIV

19] After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God. 

20] Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it.

5. HIS WORD OF LOVE – PASSIONATE LOVE FOR MANKIND

JN 19:28 

Jesus knew that everything was now finished, and to fulfill the Scriptures he said, “I am thirsty.” 

6. HIS WORD OF TRIUMPH

Jn 19:30 

30When Jesus had tasted it, he said, “It is finished!” Then he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

7. HIS WORD OF HOPE

Lk 23:46 

44By this time it was noon, and darkness fell across the whole land until three o’clock. 

45The light from the sun was gone. And suddenly, the thick veil hanging in the Temple was torn apart. 

46Then Jesus shouted, “Father, I entrust my spirit into your hands!” And with those words he breathed His last.

Jesus said, “Father, forgive these people, because they don’t know what they are doing.”

And Jesus replied, “I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise.”

3. HIS WORD OF RESTORATION

Jn 19:25-27 25

Now there stood by the cross of Jesus His mother, and His mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. 

26 When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, “Woman, behold your son!” 

27 Then He said to the disciple, “Behold your mother!” And from that hour that disciple took her to his own home.

4. HIS WORD OF ACCEPTANCE

Matt 27:46 

And about the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, “Eli , Eli , lama sabachthani ?” that is, “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?” 

The Promise Keeping God

Jeremiah 29:10 

This is what the Lord says: "When 70 years are completed for Babylon, I will come to you and fulfill my good promise to bring you back to this place".

The Promises

1. THE PROMISE OF HIS PRESENCE

Mga Hebreo 28:18

Huwag kayong magmukhang pera; at masiyahan na kayo sa anuman nasa inyo. Sapagkat sinabi ng Diyos. "Hindi kita iiwanan ni pababayaan man"

Mateo 18:20

Sapagkat saanman may dalawa o tatlong nakatitipon sa pangalan Ko, naroon Akong kasama nila."

2. THE PROMISE OF HIS PEACE

Juan 14:27

"kapayapaan ang iniiwan Ko sa inyo. Ang Aking kapayapaan ang ibinibigay Ko sa innyo; hindi ito katulad ng kapayapaang ibinibigay ng mundo. Huwag na kayong mabalisa; huwag kayong matakot."

Mga Taga-Filipos 4:7

At ang kapayapaan ng Diyos na hindi kayang maunawaan ng tao ang Siyang mag-iingat sa inyong puso at pag-iisip dahil sa inyong pakikipag-isa kay Cristo-Jesus.

3. THE PROMISE OF HIS POWER

In His time, He will demonstrate His power and His sovereignty over sin, Satan and the World

4.  THE PROMISE OF HIS PROVISION

Phil. 4:19

And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of His glory in Christ Jesus

5. THE PROMISE OF HIS POTENTIAL

1 MGA TAGA-TESALONICA 4:15-18

15 Ito ang katuruan ng Panginoon sa sinasabi namin sa inyo: tayong mga nabubuhay pa, tayong mga natitira pa hanggang sa pagparito ng Panginoon, ay hindi mauuna sa mga namatay na.

16 sa araw na iyon kasabay ng malakas na utos, ng tinig ng arkanghel, at ng tunog ng trumpeta ng Diyos, bababa ang Panginoon mula sa langit. Ang mga namatay na sumasampalataya kay Cristo ay bubuhayin muna.

17 Pagkatapos, tayo namang mga buhay pa at natitira ay titipunin sa alapaap kasama ng mga binuhay upang salubunginang Panginoon sa himpapawid. Sa gayon, makapipiling natin Siya magpakailanman.

18 kaya nga, palakasin ninyo ang loob ng bawat isa sa pamamagitan ng mga aral na ito.
