The road is to acceptance is usually lead by resistance.  We resist the things in life we don't want.  And there is nothing wrong with that because no one wants a bad outcome.   But a large amount of resistance will lead to suffering no one should have to endure.  Life is a game of Tetris, you have to adapt to what pieces you are given if you want to win.

This episode is my rebuttal in an attempt to challenge the system.  Recently, CNBC published a segment on why there are so many EV's on dealer lots.  I watched it and became fired up as doing extensive research on Tesla has shaped the way I view this topic.  The problem is most people will watch this segment and believe a lot of what it says.  Few of the parts are valid.  Most parts are not.  EV's are the future.  The demand will continue to grow despite the industry's efforts to slow it down.  

This time around it can't be stopped it is too big now.  We have the team at Tesla to thank for this!

This episode came together as I reflected this fall season of watching my children play their respective sports of football and soccer.  I really spent the season watching them and making sure I captured every second.  I found a new way to both encourage them and build them for the future.

I was surprised of how easy it was to change the way that I had always cheered for them and the reward of seeing it stick.  But seeing them grow from the experience was the most rewarding.

It is time to rethink how we have praise kids.

Children are a gift.  

Like anything worth while it takes a lot of effort.  Even with all the care, insight, and teaching you provide your children will make mistakes.  This episode is a follow up to Empowering Your Kids episode I did a few months back.  It wasn't more than a week after that episode I was both humbled, frustrated, and very proud after an incident.  But what I learned from it was just another tool to add to my arsenal.

This episode is dedicated to batteries, as in Electric Vehicle (EV) batteries.  A few episodes ago I mentioned the importance of battery core efficiency.  Since range anxiety is one fo the largest reason people don't want to buy an EV,  I thought this was a good topic to address.  By briefly describing the  concept of battery core efficiency it forced me to do the research on the EV's we mostly see in the US and North America.  Since there are so many on the road I wanted to see how they stack up against each other.

We all have bucket lists or things we want to do that seem challenging.  For whatever the reason people push themselves to be uncomfortable.   This episode is in that spirit, as my friends and I embarked on something that is very uncomfortable, skydiving.  The act of skydiving alone seems daunting.  We all felt that too.  But, it is also such a rewarding endeavor. 

Comfort is the enemy of progress.  This episode is about that journey and the take aways.  I was glad to jump with two of my best friends.  I was also glad they were willing to sit down, discuss the day, and be part of this episode.

Tradition exists everywhere.  It feels like some of the most nostalgic and honored ones are tied to things that are important to us like family, sports, and country.  A few places exists that encompass all of that.  One, Cooperstown, NY.  I want to share with you the amazing experience I had with my family while being there for The Dreams Park baseball tournament.  Then we topped it off by witnessing one of the great natural wonders of the Earth, Niagara Falls.

In this episode I wanted to provide some of the facts I have learned as I have studied, invested, and ultimately bought a Tesla.  I am so compelled by it I feel when you make your next purchase that it should be a Tesla.


Stats:

• Average American drives 13,500 miles per year (it varies per age group, see DOT link)
• Average American drives 37 miles per day.
• Average American has 37 fill ups per year.
• Each fill up takes 2-3 mins= 1.85 hr per year at the pump.  Almost 15 hrs over life of ownership.
• Average range for an ICE car is 300-413 miles.  Median is 356 miles
• Average tank is around 15 gallons * 37 fill ups= 555 gallons of gas.  Multiple this by average price of gas at $4.00= $2,220 per year.
• Average car ownership is 8 yrs
• 2-4 oil changes per year.  Each change take 20-45 mins.  32.5 is the median= 130 mins per year over two hrs while you wait. 1,040 mins/60= 17.3 hrs.
• $1,300 average maintenance cost.
• My Model Y to fully charge at home cost $9.01 (85 kWh battery * .105 per kilowatt).
• Mid size SUV will cost around $60 ($4.00 * 15 gallons)
• EV:  $9.01 * 37 (average amount of fills ups)= $333.37 per year.  8 yrs = $2,666.96 Electricity is stable.  Even cheaper if you have solar panels.
• ICE: $60 (cost to fill up) *37= $2,220 per year.  8 yrs= $17,760 (assuming gas stays at $4.00 it won’t, historically it will go up as the value of your money goes down.)
• In the aggregate no oil changes or maintenance.  Will be less than all of that with a gas car.  Think in the aggregate of average car fill up time which is 2 to 3 mins.  Oil changes (20 to 45 mins) $60 -$100 per, every 5,000 miles could be as few as 2 or 4.  Then general in the repair shop issues.  Majority of the time charging happens while you are doing something else or sleeping.
