Today on the show, True North Homeschool Academy Director, Lisa Nehring talks with Homeschooling Grandparent, Melissa Swenda about how she is supporting her daughter’s family as they homeschool. If you are taking classes at True North, Melissa’s daughter is Anna Knaub, who teaches Dystopian Literature, Austen/ Bronte British Literature and Medieval Literature at True North, as well as being part of our Enrollment team!
Melissa has worked for 20 years as an Instructional Assistant and Learning Support Asssitiant in the public school system. She was not surprised that her daughter and son -in-law decided to homeschool granddaughters and she could not be more thrilled.
Melissa is a proponent of homeschooling because she believes that
You can’t teach life experiences in the classroomYou can’t teach common sense in the classroomSome fun ways that she support their homeschooling family:
Adventure fun that the entire extended family contributes too throughout the year. These funds then go to lessons or family passes at the zoo, etc-Grandparents go on adventures WITH their kids and grandkids on adventures, when they can.Face-time- sometimes daily a the kids are playing or doing school.Sharing pictures and videos with each otherReading to the kids.Keeping a copy of a favorite book at Grandparents house.Having activity baskets at Grandparents housePurchasing fun educational supplies from the Dollar aisle.Including kids in favortie activities, like baking, gardening and woodworking.Creating a place for grandkids to watch grandparents do their favorite hobbies.Pray for your kids and your grandkidsAnd, if your adult children decide to homeschool and you are against their decision, remember that your adult child is an adult, they are parenting their children and support them the best that you can.
“Families are scattered nowadays- life can be more simple if we take care of each other.” Meslissa Swenda
In public school you can’t fail. But failure is a part of learning. When you homeschool, you can talk about why something didn’t work, or why something failed.
You’re the Only Jesus Somewill Ever See David Will
I wonder where will they ever see
There’s One who heals the broken heart
Gives sight to the blind?
‘Cause You’re the only Jesus some will ever see
And You’re the only words of life some will ever read
So let them see in You the One in whom is all they’ll ever need
‘Cause You’re the only Jesus some will ever see
I wonder who will show them love
And love alone can make things new
There’s One who trades their hopelessness
‘Cause You’re the only Jesus some will ever see
And You’re the only words of life some will ever read
So let them see in You the One in whom is all they’ll ever need
‘Cause You’re the only Jesus some will ever see
You’ve got to let them know
‘Cause You’re the only Jesus some will ever see
And You’re the only words of life some will ever read
So let them see in You the One in whom is all they’ll ever need
‘Cause You’re the only Jesus
You’re the only Jesus some will ever see
