🔴They say that success is the best teacher, but I've come to understand that loss teaches the greatest lessons.
🔴Growing up, I wasn’t the strong, confident person I am today. In fact, I was the opposite. I was that kid—the fat kid—who everyone picked on.
🔴I was the straightforward target, the one everyone laughed at. And for a long time, I carried that weight—both physically and emotionally.
🔴But something inside me changed. I knew I had to fight back, not against the bullies but against the version of myself that allowed their words to hold power over me. That's when I discovered boxing.
🔴Boxing taught me how to channel my pain, frustration, and anger into something constructive, something powerful. It wasn’t just about throwing punches; it was about proving to myself that I was stronger than the labels others had placed on me.
🔴Years have passed since then, and I’ve fought many battles inside and outside the ring. I’m proud to say that I still compete in boxing at the Masters level, continuing the fight both physically and mentally.
🔴But recently, I experienced something that humbled me—a loss in one of my competitions. And while it was tough, my coach, Rodney Williams, reminded me of a powerful truth: We learn more when we lose than when we win.
🔴Winning can feel incredible, but losing forces us to face our weaknesses. It forces us to examine ourselves in the mirror and pose challenging questions:
✔️Where did I make mistakes?
✔️What could I have done better?
✔️It's uncomfortable and painful, but it's necessary.
🔴Winning, on the other hand, can sometimes deceive us into thinking we’re invincible. It can make us complacent.
🔴Losing strips away that illusion. It brings us back to the fundamentals. It makes us hungrier and more determined. And that’s the real beauty of it. I've learned to embrace failure, learn from it, and use it to drive improvement to achieve greatness.
🔴To everyone out there who is struggling with failure or feeling defeated, know this: You're not alone. We all lose. We all fall. However, the real measure of strength is not the number of victories, but rather the number of times you bounce back from setbacks.
🔴So, here’s my message to you: Don’t be afraid to lose. Don’t shy away from failure. Every loss is a lesson; every setback is an opportunity to grow. You can never truly defeat yourself as long as you continue to fight, learn, and push forward.
