After facing the reality of 32 years in prison with over 30 felon accounts by age 18, Brandon's life took a radical turn that transformed not only his future—but his purpose. In this episode, we sit down with Brandon whose story is a testament to the redemptive power of God who leaves the 99 to find the one, Brandon says he was that one.

What began in darkness and brokenness became a journey of faith, redemption, and restoration. Through a life-changing encounter with God while in his cell, Brandon found hope where there once seemed to be none. Instead of letting his past define him,  he used it for a mission. According to what Brandon said, "God turned my mess into a miracle."

Today, Brandon runs Project Exodus, a nonprofit in Charlotte, North Carolina dedicated to helping incarcerated men and women break free from the past that once bound them. Through tattoo removal for gang symbols and other negative markings from their past, Brandon helps them get a new start.  By way of mentorship, and the sharing of God’s Word, Project Exodus provides a path for inmates to take tangible steps toward a new identity and a new future.

People today are searching. In a world full of noise, distractions, and endless demands, many hearts are quietly asking the same question: Where can I find what truly satisfies?

In the readings for the Third Sunday of Lent, we encounter this deep human search woven throughout Scripture. Moses wanders the desert with the people of Israel, searching for water to survive. A Samaritan woman comes to the well, simply looking for a drink, yet encounters something far greater—living water. And in the Psalms, David reminds us: “If today you hear His voice, harden not your hearts.”

These moments challenge us to search for the newness of life in Christ. Humanity has always thirsted—for meaning, for healing, for love, and ultimately for God.

When we empty ourselves—letting go of pride, fear, and the distractions that fill our lives—we create space for God to enter in. And when we allow the Lord to fill that space with His grace, love, mercy, and peace, we discover the fulfillment our hearts long for.

The Word of God shows us again and again that our Lord works through ordinary, even broken people. A simple shepherd boy like David becomes a king. Saul, a persecutor of the Church, becomes Paul—the apostle who writes much of the New Testament and ultimately gives his life for the faith. And above all, we see the greatest love in Jesus Christ, who thirsts so deeply for our souls that He gives His life for us.

The real challenge is allowing Him into our lives. It is learning to recognize that God often shows up in the mundane and the ordinary—quietly doing extraordinary things.

And once we encounter that living water, like the Samaritan woman, we cannot keep it to ourselves. We are called to go out and share the Good News, bringing hope, healing, and light to a world that is still searching.

Because when we allow God to fill us, transformation begins—and hope spreads.

Hope From the Margins was born from real encounters—encounters with people the world often overlooks, and with Jesus where He chooses to dwell.

In this episode, I share the story behind the movement and the book Hope From the Margins, a journey that began on the fringes of society and continues this week as I travel with colleagues to Rome to present to Pope Leo and the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development.

My life was forever changed the day I encountered Jesus in a dump in Mexico City. That moment ignited a mission that has taken me to the margins across the globe—Africa, India, Cuba, the Dominican Republic, and throughout the United States—where I met Christ in the poor, the disenfranchised, the disabled, the sick, the mentally ill, the lonely, the elderly, and those forgotten by society.

Along the way, this work has grown into a collaboration with doctors, bishops, social workers, missionaries, healthcare professionals, farmers, survivors of abuse, and pro-life advocates—united by one desire: to share the hope we ourselves have received with the world.

This is not a story of us and them, as the world so often insists. As today’s Gospel and the Scriptures remind us, we are called to be light—to shine so that love can be experienced. Showing up matters. Because when we do, an explosion of grace happens.

Most powerfully, I’ve learned this truth: it is on the margins that we are evangelized. It is there that we receive hope from our brothers and sisters—and encounter the living Christ.

What happens when the hardest battle isn’t around you—but within you?

In this episode, we confront the man in the mirror. I share encouragement, pieces of my own journey of overcoming, and practical ways to face adversity head-on instead of running from it. Life is hard—but we can do hard things. And if we want to win, if we want to become the person we were created to be, we have to choose to win every single day.

That means doing the inner work. Getting the help we need. Keeping the faith when it would be easier to quit.

We look to the ultimate example—Jesus, who is in the boat with you in the middle of the storm. He has already faced suffering, so you don’t have to do it alone. You were not made merely to survive—you were made to thrive. There is a great purpose on your life, even when the waters feel rough.

This season will pass. Shift your mindset from “I have to” to “I get to.” The storm isn’t here to break you—it’s here to fortify you and equip you for what’s next.

If you’re ready to face yourself honestly, grow intentionally, and walk forward in faith, it’s time to take the next step.
