For this momtrepreneur life coffee chat, I am going to share with you the worst business advice I've ever heard—you need to know your niche. This is a time where we throw our hair up, and we talk about a topic that is interesting, concerning, or something that needs to be addressed for a work from home and homeschool mom. 

This advice came from a lot of different places and it caused me some consternation and turmoil. Thinking that I can't do this. How am I supposed to do this? It is not going to work for me. I was searching for something that was not within my reach. I couldn't grasp it. 

The advice lead me down this rabbit trail that took a long time to get back to the path I needed to be on.  That advice is to know your niche.

Will my kids be weird if I homeschool them? Or will they be friendless geeks? Will the only way they will be able to hold a conversation is to quote lines from Napoleon Dynamite? Socialization and homeschool is one of the most asked questions when it comes to homeschool.

I wanted to talk about homeschool and socialization. it doesn't matter how long it has been around, or how many people have done it successfully. This is still the number one question that a lot of parents still have. You know what that's ok. Since it is a burning questions, let's talk about it.

I am second generation homeschooler. No, I've never seen Napoleon Dynamite…although I hear it is hilarious. I do have 6 kids that I am currently homeschooling, they are 2-16. From my own experience, I can say that I have not grown up to be a friendless geek. My kids have not grown up to be friendless geeks either. There is a lot of involvement.

 There is so many issues that my kids don't deal with because they aren't in school. Listen to the episode for the rest of the things we don't need to deal with and how we socialize and homeschool.

Do you love walking through the baby section of stores, and seeing all the cute and clever gadgets for baby? I always walk through and think, "I should have thought of that. It is genius." Or "I definitely need that because it is so darn cute." Because cute is the prerequisite for all things baby. There are so many fun, cute, and interesting things for baby, you can easily get carried away. Unfortunately, many of these items have an expiration date on how long baby will actually use it. They can really end up being a waste of money and aren't helpful for having a baby on a budget.

You secretly dream of designing your house like Joanna Gaines. Everything is white and black. It is clean and pristine. Let’s be real though, we have a houseful of kids that are home all day long. Your house is not going to look like the end results of Fixer Upper (as much as I wish it would). But as someone who works from home, you need to design a work space, you like, for remote work.

You broke free from the 9-5, so you can make your space your own. Make it fun, fill it with things you like to look at, be creative. However, you want to do it, create a space that works for you and that you enjoy being in. And it doesn't need to break the bank.

A couple of weeks ago, I gave a glimpse in the our day in the life. Well, what could fit into an 8-minute video. So for this post, I want to break it down for you. Yes, I am a homeschool mom of 6, and I juggle clients. Time is a rare commodity for moms.

As a busy mom, I wish I had more time in my day. Wouldn't it be nice if we could wave our magic mom boss wand, and piff, puff, poof, we have more time in our day to get All. The. Things done. When I first started my virtual assistant business, my husband made this observation. He said to me, “You are great at managing other people’s time but not very good with your own.” I was a little surprised by the observation, but truth be told he was probably right (don’t tell him I said that). But it made me realize that I needed to be my own time management trainer.
