Does God only work in the miraculous and the extraordinary? It can be easy to believe so. After all, that’s what we see in scripture, isn’t it? We see Moses confronted by a burning bush, Jonah swallowed by a big fish; Elizabeth miraculously pregnant, and the disciples witnessing majesty after majesty as they journey with Jesus. Clearly, when we get closer to God, we experience wonders beyond compare, right?
But then why does our life of faith sometimes seem so ordinary? Do you ever wonder why you don't witness miracles on a regular basis?
This is the truth: God meets you where you are, and in what you experience. God dwells in the normal and the routine. In the hum-drum places of life, you are invited to feast on daily bread and thereby meet the living God.
TONIGHT’S SCRIPTURE
“Give us today our daily bread.” Matthew 6:11
YOUR NIGHTLY PRAYER
Precious Jesus,
You are the living bread, the bread that I need to journey in faith. I thank you that your presence dwells with me in the intricate moments of my day. As complicated and turned around as my life can be at times, still, you are faithful.
Lord, help me quiet myself so that I can notice the movement of the Spirit all around me. Turn my attention away from the grand and the miraculous and open my heart to the gift of your presence in this moment. Help me hear your voice as you speak about the things of my life: my daily tasks, demands, and obligations. Give me the boldness to share your gift of daily bread with others.
This I pray in Jesus’ name.
Amen.
THREE THINGS TO MEDITATE UPON
1. In the Lord’s prayer, Jesus asks us to pray for God’s will to be done before we pray for our daily bread. How does our prayer for God’s kingdom to come take precedence in our lives?
2. During the Exodus, Manna was given each day as a symbol of Israel’s trust in God’s provision. How can you express your trust that God will provide each day?
3. Daily bread denies a spirit of scarcity (i.e., we believe there will be enough) and a spirit of excess (i.e., we don’t hoard our bread). Do you believe that scarcity or excess is a bigger temptation today?

A Prayer for Household Harmony by Danika Cooley
A home grounded in God’s Word becomes a place where peace can grow. Even when emotions run high or relationships feel strained, Jesus remains the steady rhythm that holds everything together. In today's episode, we look at Romans 15 and it reminds us that Scripture was written to instruct, encourage, and help us endure. God Himself is the source of harmony, and when our lives align with the teachings of Jesus, our voices—though different—can glorify Him together.
Reference: Romans 15:5-6
Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank you for the endurance and encouragement you offer us in your Word. As we walk with you, please help our home to be a house of peace because we know you and we know your Word. I ask that you equip us to live in harmony with each other. Help our family glorify Jesus both at home and in public. Let our testimony as Christ-followers be tangible to all who meet us.

Humility creates space for God to work powerfully in and through our lives. In Luke 1:46–52, Mary’s response to God’s calling shows how choosing worship over worry allows fear to shrink and faith to grow, making room for God’s strength to shine through human weakness.
Highlights
God notices and honors a humble heart.
Mary’s worship shifted her focus from fear to God’s greatness.
Humility helps us trust God with outcomes we can’t control.
Fear keeps us focused on limitations; humility lifts our eyes to God’s power.
God often calls people forward through blessings that feel both exciting and scary.
Choosing worship over worry positions us to receive God’s plans with faith.
God looks for humility when He wants to accomplish great things through someone.

God Looks for Humility
By: Whitney Hopler
Bible Reading:
“And Mary said: ‘My soul glorifies the Lord and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has been mindful of the humble state of his servant. From now on all generations will call me blessed, for the Mighty One has done great things for me – holy is his name. His mercy extends to those who fear him, from generation to generation. He has performed mighty deeds with his arm; he has scattered those who are proud in their inmost thoughts. He has brought down rulers from their thrones but has lifted up the humble.” – Luke 1:46-52, NIV
Mary had just received news that would completely turn her life upside down: an angel announced she would give birth to the Son of God. The news was wonderful, but also terrifying. Mary was a young, unmarried woman in a society where a pregnancy outside of marriage led to shame and even danger. The angel’s message was the best news possible for the world, but for Mary herself, it must have brought up feelings of fear about what her future would be like.
Still, Mary responds with faith, despite her fear. She focuses on God’s greatness and she celebrates that God has blessed her because God has been mindful of her humility. Mary overcomes her very real fears by changing her perspective. She moves her focus off her humble state and onto God, the Mighty One who is greater than her problems, and who can work through her in powerful ways. Mary’s song of praise

Awe has a way of fading when life gets crowded. Deadlines, responsibilities, and endless distractions can dull our awareness of the beauty that surrounds us every day. This devotional invites us to return to wonder—through the kind of attentive noticing that poetry captures so well. Poetry helps us slow down, see more deeply, and reconnect with meaning. And in a similar way, creation can become a doorway back into worship when our hearts feel tired or uninspired.
The devotional points to the psalms as a reminder that awe is not a modern idea—it’s part of a long, sacred practice. David, a poet himself, looked at the world around him and responded with gratitude and praise. Psalm 65 celebrates God’s provision and the beauty of nature from morning to evening. It’s a picture of a life that recognizes God’s hand in what’s growing, blooming, changing, and sustaining.
Today’s encouragement is practical and gentle: if you feel stuck, underwhelmed, or overworked, plan a pause in nature. Take a walk. Study a single detail—a leaf, a shell, a butterfly, a creek—and let your senses wake up again to the reality that God is present and creative. Creation becomes a reminder that the Lord is still at work in ways we can’t always see, weaving fragile miracles into ordinary moments. Making space to be awestruck can cleanse the spirit, lift the heart, and restore faith—because awe reminds us that God is bigger than our burdens and more tender than we sometimes remember.
Main Takeaways
Awe can fade when life feels busy, heavy, or distracting—but it can be rekindled.
Creation points us to God’s power, provision, and gentleness.
The psalms model a life of noticing and responding with gratitude and worship.
A simple pause in nature can restore perspective and renew faith.
Paying attention to small details can become a spiritual practice of seeing God’s handiwork.
Today’s Bible Verse:
The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders; where morning dawns, where evening fades, you call forth songs of joy. - Psalm 65:8

When spiritual authority crosses into control, how do you recognize it—and why is it so hard to name while you're inside it?
In this special edition of the Praying Christian Women podcast, Jaime and Alana take a break from the usual Prayer Through the Psalms series to share a deeply personal interview from their true crime podcast series, Christian True-Crime Junkies.
Coinciding with Spiritual Abuse Awareness Month, this is Part 1 of a 3-part conversation exploring Alana's harrowing experience in a Christian cult during her college years—a story she is sharing in depth for the first time.
What began as a faith community rooted in belonging and purpose slowly revealed patterns of manipulation, control, and spiritual abuse. Through Alana's firsthand account, we unpack how high-control religious environments form, why intelligent and faith-seeking young adults are especially vulnerable, and how Scripture, obedience, and "submission" can be weaponized to silence questions and override personal discernment.
Whether you have experienced spiritual abuse yourself or simply want to protect your loved ones, we hope you'll join us as we learn to distinguish between a healthy church and a high-control group, ultimately pointing us back to the safety and freedom found in a genuine relationship with Jesus.
NOTE: Part 2 of this conversation will air on Tuesday, 1/20 on the Christian True-Crime Junkies! podcast, with Part 3 to follow!
