A Prayer to Receive and Share God's Lavish Love by Rachael Adams
We are invited to receive the lavish, generous love of God and to share it with others. This devotional reminds us that even the most impressive gifts, sacrifices, and acts of faith mean nothing without love. Love is the lens through which every gift from God is meant to be experienced and expressed.
Reference: 1 Corinthians 13:1-3
Prayer: Lord, thank you for all you've given me in your son, the Holy Spirit, and the hope of eternity. Help me to grasp the magnitude of the gifts you have lavished on me as your child. Remind me that it was never anything I earned or deserved, but your generosity to me. Help me to steward what you have given me well, and to share it cheerfully because it is not about me. It is all about you and for you. In Jesus' name, amen.

When John describes Jesus as the “true light” in John 1:9, he isn’t just offering poetic language or an interesting metaphor. He’s making a bold, theological declaration about the identity of Christ. He’s saying that Jesus is the fulfillment of everything God hinted at throughout the Old Testament. Every glimpse of light, every shadow of hope, every prophecy that promised redemption, finds its substance in Him. John wants us to recognize that Jesus didn’t appear randomly. He came as the long-promised light who would shine on people sitting in darkness.

Emmanuel: God Is With You, Even Now

Bible Reading:
“Look! The virgin will conceive a child! She will give birth to a son, and they will call him Emmanuel, which means ‘God is with us.’” - Matthew 1:23 NLT
I sat at a crossroads in my mind.
Physically, I was in the driver’s seat of my car in the parking lot between Panera Bread and my favorite local bookstore. But mentally, my mind was weighing the pros and cons of a new job offer. Minutes earlier, Erin, who was the managing editor for the newspaper where I worked as a freelance reporter, had called me to say a publisher of a newspaper in Montana had called her asking for a recommendation about me. She said he sounded very interested in hiring me. In fact, she thought I was getting the job! I was excited but also apprehensive.
If they offered me this job, then was I ready to leave the only home I’d known, pack my bags, and relocate from Maryland to Montana? After all, I was a city and suburb East Coast Girl. Was I ready to take this leap of faith and move out to the West of the USA without knowing anyone there or what to expect?
Within a matter of days, the publisher interviewed me via Zoom and offered me the job. I froze. Was this really happening? After a moment of silence, I asked for time to think it over. He agreed. Later that day, my Mom—convinced this was the right opportunity for me at that time—said I should accept the job offer and prepare to move. After prayer—and considering the fact that I needed a job, but no local jobs had been offered to me for several months prior—I agreed and told the publisher I would move to Montana.
My Mom

This week, we focus on love—the great love of God that sent Jesus to us.God’s love is deep, unfailing, and unearned. It’s a love that reaches beyond what we can comprehend and invites us to love Him in return—and to love others with that same grace.
Our passage today, Psalm 36:5–9, reminds us that God’s love reaches to the heavens and that in His light we see light. As you meditate, you’ll be invited to rest in that love—to remember that it is constant, abundant, and freely given.
Take a few quiet moments to breathe deeply and let His love settle into your heart.

Meditation Scripture: Psalm 36:5–9 (NIV)
5 Your love, LORD, reaches to the heavens,
your faithfulness to the skies.
6 Your righteousness is like the highest mountains,
your justice like the great deep.
You, LORD, preserve both people and animals.
7 How priceless is your unfailing love, O God!
People take refuge in the shadow of your wings.
8 They feast on the abundance of your house;
you give them drink from your river of delights.
9 For with you is the fountain of life;
in your light we see light.

Christmas is filled with joy, traditions, music, and gatherings, but it’s easy for the true meaning of the season to get lost in the noise. While gifts, decorations, and celebrations are meaningful, Christmas is ultimately about the greatest gift ever given—Jesus Christ. Born humbly in a stable, the Messiah came to bring light into a weary world and restore us to the Father. When we intentionally tell His story, model His love, and give selflessly, we realign our hearts with the reason we celebrate. Keeping Christ at the center of Christmas requires purpose, but it leads us back to the joy and hope found only in Him.
Main Takeaways
You’ll learn why Christmas joy is rooted in Christ, not traditions or material gifts.
Discover how telling the story of Jesus—especially in your home—keeps the season Christ-centered.
Understand how generosity, hospitality, and kindness reflect the heart of the Christmas story.
Reflect on how sharing Christ’s love through actions opens doors for meaningful conversations.
Be encouraged to celebrate Jesus intentionally as the true source of hope, joy, and peace.

Your Daily Prayer
Heavenly Father, thank You for the incredible gift of Jesus, our Savior and source of lasting joy. In this busy Christmas season, help me resist distractions and keep Christ at the center of all I do. Shape my heart to reflect Your generosity, kindness, and love toward others. May my words and actions point clearly to Jesus—not only during the holidays, but in every season of life. Let His light shine through me so others may see and celebrate the true reason for Christmas.
Amen.
